  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

Prometheus...

i think it will be finished in 5K since they want to project it on IMAX.. not sure though.

I heard there was a 4K 2D release as well, which would indicate it was at least finished in 4K (even if most of the VFX shots wind up being less than 4K).
With that in mind, doesn't the IMAX DMR process start with the highest quality master they have? If so - wouldn't that mean the only way to see it in something akin to "4K 3D" without hunting down that one 4K3D theater in Texas, is to see it at the 70mm IMAX 3D? Someone please correct me if I'm wrong - I'm just speculating here...

Everyone who has seen our projector wants one... :-)

Jim
I am sure it will be as revolutionary in the market as the RED has been ..
BUT : i really really really really really hope that you will tell us when this projector will come out ... i hope very very soon off course , but would be useful as well just knowing if we are talking 2-3 months ?... or more than that ?

thanks
g

hi timur , is that good theater ?
i mean there are plenty of 4K projector in NYC ...is that theater big ?

thanks

g

I saw a special 4K projection of Bladerunner at the Zeigfeld. it was the most beautiful thing i've ever seen in a theatre. The Zeigfeldis legendary because its a real old school theatre. One massive screen, a ton of seats, and since they have only one screen the theatre sort has to have good taste and show a great movie. if the ziegfeld is showing ti..... its probably a great film.

I'm just not sure if the 4K projector is theirs or if it was brought in for that on screening of Bladerunner.

Man you think there will be a 4K screening anywhere? Ziegfeld in nyc perhaps?

Seeing as the vfx are being done in 2k it's unlikely you'll find a vfx free edit and grade of the film. :P

Your confidence trickles down to all of us. Congrats both to Ridley and to you.

I had the great pleasure to meet Ridley on set of Prometheus in Iceland and then spend time with him in Hollywood. He is an incredible personality. I was so happy that he was thrilled at how Prometheus looked. It made my day/month/year/life. :-)

The opening waterfall cinematic is breath taking. I will pledge my support of the revolution with my $7, $14, $20+ ticket this summer. I'd rather see this once at a higher ticket price, than four movies from the other guys. If they are good movies, I'll rent them on DVD. Story > Technology but Story + Tech done well, unforgettable. Epic belongs in the theater!

blade runner vfx was done on 65mm

not exactly, most high end practical and miniature work requiring multi-pass elements were shot at higher size due to the reduced size in grain, many passes = alot of grain built up, shooting 65 made this a lesser issue.

once all the elements were shot they were then optically comped in 35

What about the 20th anniv edition recently done? Did they still have the original passes to rescan?

Do they have a release date yet? Or maybe RED will get a private screening? RSVP this one or invite only?
