  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

PROMETHEUS: FULL THEATRICAL TRAILER

I am definitely looking forward to this. It's about damn time we returned to the Alien universe after the AVP movies. They put up a timeline for Weyland Industries that does not reference the early Wayland/Yutani corporate presence in the AVP prequels, so I guess the AVP films are no longer part of the canon.

I'm positive that the makers behind 'Prometheus' disregarded any events in the AVP-franchise in making of their own film 'Prometheus'.
I think you can safely say that the AVP-franchise is not canon :)

Best trailer I have seen in recent memory. Absolutely AMAZING.

Amazing!

Also I'm always interested in to get more about that what kind of idea is standing behind an art project like this.

So than please read more about the basic story...

In Greek mythology, Prometheus (Ancient Greek: Προμηθεύς, "Forethinker")[1] is a Titan, the son of Iapetus and Themis, and brother to Atlas, Epimetheus and Menoetius.
He was a champion of mankind, known for his wily intelligence, who stole fire from Zeus and gave it to mortals.[2] Zeus then punished him for his crime by having him bound
to a rock while a great eagle ate his liver every day only to have it grow back to be eaten again the next day. His myth has been treated by a number of ancient sources,
in which Prometheus is credited with – or blamed for – playing a pivotal role in the early history of mankind. During the Greek War of Independence,
Prometheus became a figure of hope and inspiration for Greek revolutionaries and their philhellene supporters.

As awesome as the trailer is... I fear it has shown too much.

I couldn't disagree more about the marketing team doing a great job. I could blow by blow why I think this is a poor run of the mill approach but suffice to say that the entire plot seems evident from it - lessening (on my part) the likelihood of a trip to the cinema. Where is the mystery these days or are marketing people so unimaginative. I am now somewhat less inclined to see this than before.

Nail. Head.

I'm still going to go see it, but I wish I could un-see the trailer now.

agree that it's too bad they gave away a big chunk of the punchline. but i'm guessing there's still more to unveil. it's a pretty chilling trailer...I'm almost a little scared to go see it.

it is kind of making me want to go watch Solaris again. the "quiet" space movie.

I think the marketing team is doing an absolutely stellar job on this.

However, it does appear that at least one very major plot point has essentially been given away since the very first teasers for this film, namely having to do with that large spaceship crashing. I hope this is not as much of a spoiler as it appears to be. :(

The marketing team of this film is doing a great job - Kudos! With the virals and the trailers they keep people guessing, and that's what they want you to do - to think about the film all the time ;) It's working perfectly on me, haha! :D

Now, to some of the people who think that watching trailers will spoil the experience of the film - well, it's not really anything new that key moments pop up in trailers. I know of people who distance themselves from all marketing material and save it all for the theater experience. So if you don't want to have anything spoiled - don't watch any of the trailers and virals ect. But I believe that if you can live with knowing just a few bits then it wont take anything significant away from your complete experience ;)

No marketing campaign can please everyone 100% - that's just a fact. So there will always be some who don't like it and some who love it. I admit, I LOVE all of this stuff - can't get enough of it! Especially the viral stuff - gimme more! :D

Btw. Ridley is notoriously cautious about giving too much away and has a great understanding of the marketing-side of filmmaking. I trust that he also has great influence on the marketing of 'Prometheus'(his own son directed the 'TED'-viral) so that nothing really major or significant will be uncovered before the movie unveils the mystery in the theaters ;)

" A king has his reign, and then he dies."

Great line to open the trailer...it delivers a high concept expectation and that's something I dig. It's an interesting premise of finding a glyph and being 'invited' to discover its meaning and who sent it. That's the mystery to the plot. Of course we can tell when they get where they're going it all goes to hell...we have that curiosity within us to want to know more, and as such it compels us to the furthest reaches of space. I don't often look forward to the typical rounds of studio tentpole films, but this is one I will definitely see in glorious 4K.

For anyone who's as big of a sic-fi buff as I am, that is one of the most over-used plot devices known to mankind. Wading through countless sci-fi novels and short stories, the concept is abundant and dates back even before Jules Vern. It pops up in Hollywood films from time to time, or some derivative does -- Transformers, Stargate, StarTrek, etc.. Oh, look, the aliens have invited us over for tea! Let's join them... Oh, shit... they're assholes and now we have to stop them since they know where we came from.

I'm not trying to bash the trailer, let alone the film, on this premise. On the contrary, I think Prometheus looks freaking amazing. I'll be there opening day to see it. When it comes down to it, over-used concepts are a non-issue. What matters is how they build a good story around it. I'm fully expecting a good story here... Hopefully, I haven't set my expectations too high. Of course, I've tempered the expectations accordingly... This is still a romping space adventure where we're sure to see plenty of face-hugging, chest-bursting action.

As for the marketing of this. It's been great. Only issue I have is that the trailer appears to contain too many spoilers. There are what appears to be two, possibly three, huge ones. Which leads me to wonder... I'm hoping they're pulling a rope-a-dope here and setting us up for the sucker punch, but I truly doubt it.

..Please, please, please let there be a 4K DI for this.

I suppose the question to the mystery is why...yeah the aliens have been here before is not new -that wasn't my point- but perhaps I'm over-thinking and/or expecting a novel justification. Ultimately though, it doesn't really matter -it's a device to get them onto Prometheus and execute the mission...I get that. The invitation has to be a military directive rather than Carl Sagan altruism.

Great viz in the trailers thus far!

LoL Jeff Kilgroe thats a classic.....Any chance Ridley is setting this up for a trilogy or something ? ......i dont know but fkn things jumping out of other things with creepy space music is stressful enough to watch as it is so ill be happy with a simple story.
