Hello, Team RED. I figure you all must be tired of being asked "when does the Epic brain come out?" So I thought I'd switch things up a bit and ask about the progress with the lens mounts for the DSMC system.

1) How's it going?

2) Do you have any working prototypes of the mounts made?

3) Are they electronic (able to control aperture through camera menus) or manual (able to control aperture by moving a lever, like the current R1 Nikon mount)?

4) Are there any lenses that don't operate smoothly with the mounts?

5) Do you anticipate them being ready for the Epic launch, or will it take a bit longer?

6) Do you think Sigma / Tokina / Tamron lenses will work on either the Nikon or Canon mounts?

7) When purchasing an Epic / Scarlet brain, can we opt for the Nikon or Canon mount instead of the PL mount, or does the brain always come with a PL mount (like the RED ONE) and the other mounts are an additional purchase?

I know these questions are somewhat premature, but I thought I'd give you all something else to respond to that didn't involve M-X upgrade time estimates or guessing when larger capacity CF cards would become available. :emote_couch:

I currently an HVX200 + Redrock Micro owner w/Nikon 35mm lenses. I would like to buy a 2/3 Scarlet with a Nikon Mount, but, how exactly is that going to work? How can you put 35mm Nikon lenses on the 2/3 inch Scarlet? Do we know yet? Has this been made clear by RED?

You can use Nikon lenses on the 2/3" interchangeable Scarlet with the Nikon lens mount, but you really shouldn't. The 2/3" sensor is much, much smaller than a 35mm sensor, so the field of view crop factor will turn all your lenses into telephoto (you won't have any wide angle.)

The only practical way of using Nikon lenses on the 2/3" Scarlet is to use the same Redrock Micro 35mm adapter you now own. Otherwise, you might as well spend a little extra and get the S35 Scarlet, which can use your Nikon lenses the way they're meant to be used.

Hope this helps!
