I'm looking for any advice you guys can give me about production insurance, for myself, and also for renting out my gear. I've heard you can get $30,000 coverage for a week long shoot for very cheap. Is that true? I already have my gear insured myself, but I'd of course prefer clients get their own coverage. How do you go about this?

Thanks! :)

Production Insurance

Hi Brandon,

I hope this finds you well, and we really should get the bay area Red owners together sometime.

As I just acquired my Red, I just stepped through this.

I used Kat at Heffernan in LA.

I opted to both insure my equipment for business use, and for a million smooth production liability policy. I do not rent my gear, and rental equipment coverage(as in when I rent something for my productions) was cheaper to do on a term (per use not annual) basis for me.

You should require your renter to provide proof of rental insurance with you or your company as named insured.

Production insurance is liability coverage for your productions, you just get the insurance company to add the location owner or whatever as an additional insured party for the term of the shoot. I've generally got it all done my email or fax.

Give her a call, she was easy to work with, and she'll step you through the whole thing.
