Is there some reason that the interior dimensions for Red lenses are not given for us who want to order screw in filters, or are these still subject to change? I don't understand why one has to discover that there is a built-in filter slot in the 300mm in the threads and not in the description.

Has the issue of black, glossy finish on accessories been resolved, or is ugly gray still shipping?

No description on the rods. Anyone not going with Red rods? There seem to be other vendors with prices much lower than Red, but on the web, they don't offer much of a description, either. Hard to compare in the dark.

Other suggestions as to substitutes? I see another Redite is happy with Anton B. batteries.

My Red is up and I'm trying to finalize my order (both Red and third parties), so any input will be greatly appreciated. Right now I'm 100% from the Red Store. But with some quality control issues, I thought it best to take one more look outside the Red Store box.

Thanks for any and all suggestions, Tail Ends

Red accessories are now looking fantastic - all of ours (so far, a few are on backorder, but I don't expect any difference) are perfectly finished.

ET rods are great, and light too. Rods is rods, really, so go with whatever you like.

AB bricks seem to be working well, but if you're buying new then Red Bricks are a little cheaper and also work well!

You'll need some good 3rd party handles if you want a shoulder-mount rig, plus you might want to look at the ET baseplates. Haven't got our Red baseplate yet, so can't comment, but there's been a lot of talk of poorly fitting dovetails, so might be one to avoid.

You'll almost certainly want some kind of breakout box for the dumb side connectors - check out ET, SimVideo and Toys4Red.

Monitoring - Red LCD (proprietary, but small, light and good) is an option, but you might also want to look at the Carrion B (www.lsdsgn.com) - bigger, great screen, still shows menus via HDMI->DVI connector, non-proprietary (has HD-SDI input and loop-through). Much the same price as Red LCD.

CF cards - you want some. Lots.

Just to sign off, after getting seriously worried about build issues with Red accessories, ours are all very well made and finished, and I have no complaints whatsoever - so don't feel you need to go to 3rd party suppliers unless they're doing something different that you like...

Happy shopping, and enjoy your new camera - we are!

Dominic and BL, thanks for taking the time to respond. I'm a bit up in the air, too, about the LCD, not quality, but size. Unless you're the cameraman and the unit is in your face, any 2nd AC will have to stoop and/or squint to see what you need to see. If all you're going with is the LCD as a view finder, then it's perfect, but if you're shooting studio with a crew, then I would think the 8" Red has mentioned or the new Panasonic might be a better choice (short of going rack mounted).

Any other thoughts out there?

I'm in the same boat - camera ships this week, hopefully with Nikon mount.

The Red store descriptions definitely could be more complete - I'm trying to decode the battery specs. How do Watt hours compare to Amp hours?

I've ordered the ET rods - lighter than the Red steel and much cheaper than the Red carbon fiber. Also their EVF mount. I rest my eye on an eyepiece to avoid light leaks, and the Red arm looks too flimsy for that.

I have a 15mm Chrosziel mattebox, so I'm hoping the Red 19mm to 15mm rod adaptor will work. Any other options???

I hope to put the Red Rock follow focus on the 15mm rods - It's well engineered and a great price.

Any suggestions for lens support on the Red 19 mm rods? I've got a large lens that won't fit the 15 mm system.
