  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

Problems With Color

Colour chips are usable only as a rough reference.
They are ideal values, with offsets affected by colour science, exposure, light source and environment (lens and ND being the same).

Different surfaces are affected by light differently, by properties of absorption, reflectiveness and translucency, especially skin with its layers and palette, and using those rudimentary chips as a reference to force ideal values does not necessarily bring accurate overall image and in many cases it will mess it up and require more work to undo the effect of basic CC. Those charts are usable for camera matching within the same scene and exposure. Roughly. That approach doesn't work across the scenarios varying with light, environment and exposure because too many variables affect what is captured of those chips. If it is a different camera things multiply further.

Guys,

Thank you very much for the help, I have come to think that the sensor of my camera was broken. I have remained calm after your comments.

As always Reduser giving solution for everything. =)

Talk to Dave Corley at DSC Labs. He knows this area backwards and forwards.

They are not exhibiting at NAB this year but they do have their charts at many, many booths and I think Dave and Tony from DSC will be there. They have several good tech papers on how they feel their approach is valid. There are rules to observe, particularly in regards to gels and mixed lighting and filters and so on.

Thanks, Marc.

Yup, varibles multiply and those charts need a proper light and camera context for reference values.
