Problems posting with Long Drive Cable?

I purchased a 6' cable to get my hard drives off the camera for a couple of studio shots where the camera need to be shaken. However, when I try to use the cable, I have problems with the shots not posting when I cut, and hanging up the camera. Is this due to the 6' cable? Can it be helped by shooting a lower quality, such as RED Code 28? I am using the latest release build for the MX.
Please forgive me if this has been addressed before, since I don't get a chance to keep up with REDuser as much as I would like. I'm just trying to figure out my options. I know 16GB cards or RED Ram would be useful, but I'm having trouble finding anyone to rent and I don't want to invest in this stuff for only a few shots when the SSD is on the horizon. Thanks for the help.

Thanks for the feedback

Thanks for the feedback

Thank you very much for the feedback and suggestions; it all sounds like good advice. FYI, my BombSquad rep at RED, (who I should add got back to me very quickly, even on a Saturday morning), also guesses that it is a faulty cable, so I'm sending it in for evaluation. In the meantime, I'll try turning off the proxies, and see if that helps.

With Sincere Thanks,
