  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

Problems...help!!!!

Ok, after looking at these (thank you for the R3D's) it looks like a data/compression issue which is most likely caused by a) an SSD card not fully inserted, or b) a bad firmware install. Try reinstalling the firmware, then fully insert the SSD into the camera and try again. It should be fine...

If your still having problems file a support ticket.

People will give you a hard time if your post claims an issue but you dont give any background info into the problem. In the future please be sure to describe the issue and explain your settings. Then follow up with the R3D's.

Good luck and hope this helps.

Re-install firmware and try again

If you all hadn't seen the other thread here are some ways to correct issues with the Epic/Scarlet that tend to take care of every issue:

Steps if your having problems:
1. Reseat the SSD in the side module.
2. Reboot the camera
3. Remove lens if a canon lens and reseat.
4. Reinstall firmware

One of these should fix it....

The problems (and you can actually see them quite clearly on the Facebook picture) seem to be that on one shot about a quarter of the image on the right side only has the blue color channel in it. On the other shot the image is strangely corrupted around the actor's feet. I sadly can't offer any help, but since so many people seem to have trouble seeing the problems, I thought I'd point them out.

Now, while I agree that when posting about a problem it's always good to describe the problem with as much detail as possible, I don't think that failing to do so necessitates calling the OP a troll or dissing them for asking advice on where to upload their R3D files. Doing that just makes you lot look like douchebags. So if you can't help, you might want to think about keeping your thoughts to yourselves.

Ok, now we have something to work with, that´s a great start.

The first frame has som artifacts on the right side when I open it in RedcineX Pro (latest version), the second image seems fine. (I haven´t analyzed them carefully so I may be missing something)
When I drop resolution to 1/2 the problems in the first frame goes away, and the entire frame is displayed - this is also the case for the thumbnails I get - so making conclusions very fast here, my guess is that your footage is fine, but there is some bug in the current version of RedcineX that for some reason shows up in some of your footage.

I would file a support ticket with RED, and back up all footage, and preferably storing the SSDs untill you get a good answer, as there might be a problem with the transfer of the data.

So my initial thoughts are

a) redcine X pro has a minor bug that shows up in your footage, that will be fixable, maybe by rolling back to a previous version.
b) Bad transfer, some data is lost when offloaded from the SSDs. (try reseating SSD card, change cable or try another SSD reader)

My best advice: file a support ticket and treasure your SSDs untill you get a reply.

good luck!

It unfortunately is not a RedcineX Pro bug, I also opened it in RedcineX b501 and it still has the same issues. It is a compression/data issue with his camera. As above, reinstall firmware and fully insert the SSD, then try again.

just checked out the r3d's - seems to be some kind of file corruption. it could just be redcine-x, it's rendering out differently than it's being displayed, which is odd. did you notice this while you were shooting? did it show during playback on camera? did it persist through every frame or do you just have these two random frames? did you check the footage after transferring from your redmag? did you reinstall the latest firmware or try an old one? did you try going down to a barebones setup, removing nonessential accessories? i would contact red support if you haven't already with these r3d's and a log file if you're worried something is wrong with your camera. unless you can't get shots without these artifacts, just make sure you're on top of checking your footage for now, especially if it's critical.

we're all here to help, but you need to at least try to help yourself a little bit... don't panic.

Ive had this happen twice on my scarlet. It wasnt shooting while it happened though. just did a hard power down and restarted. problem fixed. i would suggest though if you reinstall firmware, make sure to detach sidehandle and redmote and any lenses. just the brain and monitor.
