Hi All.
Hoping someone can help me out. I admit my skillsets are a little above novice when it comes to Red workflow, but learning everyday.
However I have a problem exporting some red files that were shot on an Epic. I have the files in RedcineX, and want to get them into Premiere Pro. Now I believe that my original version of PP 5.1 will not open files from the Epic (from what I have read) so have upgraded to PP 5.5.
I have tried exporting my Epic footage via RedcineX as DPX files, yet when I import them into PP 5.5 it just shows me an empty folder!
I have tried exporting as Quicktime files as well but I keep getting an error message on export.

Can someone please tell me what are the best files to xport as and the correct process to get them to open in Prem Pro.

I will be very grateful for any and all help. This is doing my head in.

Regards
Darran

Hi Darran, is this your first post since you joined in '08!?

Premiere Pro CS5.5 can open .R3D files natively. That means that you don't even have to transcode them out of RedCine-X. Try going through your camera file structure and importing the .R3D files directly (inside the .RDC folders)

You will need to have installed the RED EPIC Importer from Adobe first.

thanks

thanks

Hi Andrew.
Yeah I've been having probs importing natively. Could be because I don't have that importer installed. I'll give it a try. Although I did notice, inside the RDX folders the files are labelled as RedcineX. I presume this was from the camera owner downloading the files onto the HD I gave him. But I'll install the importer and see how I go.
thanks for taking the time to help.

Darran
PS: yes, I think this is my first post since joining, although I have found many answers to my problems in other people threads.

you have to install the importer, and follow the directions closely.. if you miss a step it wont work.. It took me a few attempts, not to mention a lot of searching to find the install directions- you have to copy and replace a bunch of files.. a pain in the a.., but worth it! I would post link to install instructions but im not presently on my premiere machine

Thanks Nathaniel. hopefully this will get me sorted.
