So I'm rendering out ProRes files using RedRushes to pass off to an outside editor and for a 1 minute clip it's taking about 3 minutes to render. This makes perfect sense except the resulting file is only 8 KB and has no image. Same resulting file size whether it's half OR quarter debayer.

I only have experience with the Adobe and Avid workflows. Please help!

Here are the settings I'm trying to make work:

Render:

Debayer:Half-Res(Standard)
Look Source: Camera
Color/Gamma: REDSpace

Resize:

Scale checked; W=1920 H=1080 FitWidth, CatmulRom

Output:

Output format: Quicktime Movie
Quicktime Codec: Apple ProRes 422 (tried both regular AND HQ)

Thanks in advance for your help!

Do you have FCP installed for ProRes?

Nope... Wow, I didn't think it would have to be installed just to make the files? So, is that the case? I don't need to look at the files, I just need to render them. Don't have FCP but can get it if I have too.

prores codec for pc

prores codec for pc

Trying to find a similar solution... client wants to edit on his laptop using prores. I use PC - CS4 & Redcine - and have downloaded the prores codec which apparently installed fine, however, when I look at exporting in either CS4 or Redcine every other codec is there apart from Prores.

Is the codec for windows solely for viewing Prores QT files or should I be able to export my R3d files to Prores within the PC system?

Just to clarify, this is not the same question I'm asking. I'm NOT on a Windows machine, and the Apple ProRes option IS showing up in Redrushes, AND the rendering is taking as long as expected, it's just outputting an 8 KB file.

Simon's question is valid as well of course, just want to avoid any confusion from someone trying to answer.

Sorry Dom... thought it was a similar problem, confused Redrushes & Redcine. Don't suppose you know if prores should show up to export in windows?

There's no prores encoder for windows and the only way to get the prores encoder is through a FCS install (there is no direct download of the ProRes encoder). The decoder is available for downoad.

If you have an install of FCS, all that is needed to encode ProRes is the AppleProRes component that is installed in the QuickTime folder. Of course, you could just convert to CineForm.

Hi,
I'm a student filmmaker and have exactly the same problem with footage I shot at the weekend... but I'm very much a tech idiot and don't understand the solution as posted here. Sorry. Can someone break it down for me and tell me what I need to do?

I do have FCP 5 on my Mac laptop. I have access to FCP 7 on the Macs at school. But as I debayer the RED footage on my laptop, I'm getting the empty 8kb files, nothing more. Will they nevertheless work on the FCP7 at school, or do I need to get FCP 7 for my laptop? And do I need some other add-on? Please help! Time is running out and I have days of footage to debayer before I can start editing... and it sounds like most of the first day of debayering is going to be useless to me?

Thanks a lot for anyone who can tell an IT idiot, in simple language, what to do!

Also, are the files I've already debayered (but which are the empty 8kb ones) utterly useless? Do I have to start all over again?
