I had problems uninstalling MetaFuze 1.0 the other day. Add/Remove Programs would start removing and then report that Avid MetaFuze Installer.msi was missing.

Intalling MF 1.2 over 1.0 was reporting the same error.

I went to the registry editor and searched for all entries containing "metafuze." There were quite a few, I deleted those keys and in some instances where I wasn't sure what the keys were doing I deleted the value containing "MetaFuze" inside keys.

Then I manually removed all MetaFuze files in c:/Program Files and tried installing 1.2. The process went further then before but now I am getting this error:

Error 1714. The older version of Avid MetaFuze cannot be removed.

I'm stuck, there are no more "MetaFuze" references in the registry, Add/Remove Programs is not showing MetaFuze and I can't install the new one. My Windows expertise is minimal. I'd appreciatte any ideas to get me clean this thing up.

By the way, there is no DS on this machine but I have MC 3.5 on it.

Lookng into it...

What if I uninstall Media Composer and all companion apps and go back to the registry editor and blow off everything that says "Avid" and "Softimage"?

I just don't want to mess up anything with my MC 3.5 licensing by deleting registry keys. The MC is licensed to the dongle, the old style.

That is worth trying. With the dongle, it is wasy to just reinstall everything and be up and running. We can't think of anything here that might be causing this.

I kind of solved it.

I tried Windows Installer CleanUp Utility and it didn't find MetaFuze on the computer. Then I ran jv16 PowerTools registry cleaner and it found some MetaFuze keys (and bunch of unrelated junk). I deleted those, tried to install MF 1.2 and got the same error 1714 again. So none of these steps did it for me.

Then I logged in using the XP default administrator account and installed MF 1.2 right away! I logged back to my account and MF was not in Add/Remove Programs, wasn't in the start menu but I could execute it anyway. Then I looked in the third administrator account I have on this machine and the setup was identical to my account.

I created another administrator account and still could not see MF in Add/Remove Programs but could execute it.

I suppose I can uninstall/install MF through the default admin account and run it through any other account on the computer. It's weird but it works for now.
