Hey guys,

Updated my laptop to Lion, or rather bought a new one with Lion
pre-installed.
I am using a Tempo Sata Pro Expresscard34.

Ever since the SSDs are not recognized by my laptop, they show up as 'unknown
format' and want to initialize - which is not quite what I want to do...

The card connects just fine with other Esata devices such as harddrives.
The SSD cards mount just fine when connected to the same computer
via Firewire800.

Any similar experiences or genius ideas ?

Thanks

Axel

This issue is addressed in the Red Station manual.

Sonnet eSATA controllers aren't yet supported -- I can connect just fine with my SI eSATA card, but not with my Sonnet Tempo based QIO using both Lion and Snow Leopard.

From page 1-5 of the manual: "IMPORTANT: ONLY Silicon Image or Highpoint SATA cards will connect to RED STATION modules through eSATA at this time."

Ian.

Thanks for the update.

Grand. Worked under Snow Leopard though...

Weird. Never worked with my QIO in Snow Leopard. Then again, my QIO never really worked with Snow Leopard all that well either.

Ghost in the machine, I guess.

Sonnet Qio has a E4P card in it. The E4P eSata card and Tempo Sata Pro Expresscard are based on the Marvell 7042 chipset and are not supported by the RED Station. However the E2P and the non-Pro Tempo Sata Expresscard are based on the Silicon Image 3132 chipset. So it should work.

Maybe Sonnet has not updated the driver for it in lion.

Right. If it's based on the 3132 chipset it should work just fine -- it's fully supported by Lion and RED. My understanding is that it's a single Silicon Imaging driver, unless Sonnet gives the firmware their own special flair (which wouldn't be terribly surprising and I wouldn't expect an update any time soon).

I could be wrong, though. I don't have one on hand.

All I know is that I'm just tired of seeing this same question posted a thousand times. However, I am glad to see an intelligent discussion about the problem forming.

the reason this question is posted over and over again is because as soon as something seems to work somebody updates a driver or OS and
everything changes.

I just got a rosewill with a Silicon Image chipset. Does not work.
That is the third card I am trying in vain.

Everybody praises the Caldigit. Except the one that seems to work is the older model,
that is not sold anymore.

so it ain't that easy and the saga continues....

Same Issue

Same Issue

Hey guys, I had the same issue today with the REDMAG 1.8" 64GB card in a Red Station connected eSATA to Sonnet Tempo Pro Express34 in Macbook Pro 17" running Lion 10.7.2.

It wanted to initialize the SSD. I chose FW800 instead.
