  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

PRO IO MINI - VERSION 2 - WHO WANTS ONE !!!!

Jim and Jarred are probably fueling the jet to come and punch me in the face for causing such a stir on this subject.... But I'll take the hits for chance of this thing being made.

After having a good long hard think about my personal requirements and reading the hundreds of threads on the last PRO IO MINI thread I started... I think its best not to try jam pack it with every single option, as that is what the MEIZLER MODULE is designed to do.
This little baby is only for the thousands of us that want to keep the cameras small and powerful. With this module comes full size Audio inputs / extra EVF and 4k/2k proxies files simultaneous with R3D's...

Let the big movie guys get the big rigs with all the bells and whistles I say, and the power to them. We applaud RED for making things like the MEIZLER MODULE available to them.... but now its time for the little guys, the 80% of us who want to keep things small and functional. This is why we all bought into RED EPIC (including the amazing image quality of course)
PRO RES for instant editing is what saved ARRI... If it was just a RAW camera it would be as dead as the D21 is a long time ago... we all know this. So to have a small and PRORES (or DNXHD) in a tiny module (as well as proper audio inputs) - that would be the last thing to we (i) will need to say out loud. "PERFECT"
Actually the RED PLAYBACK IS WAHT MADE THE CAMERA PERFECT FOR ME.... this will top it off.

I know I know this could be a ridiculous request for RED... but when I see sound pix and Samurais sort of doing it... and knowing that RED are the kings of shrinking horse power into little boxes... I totally think RED can do this.

Thank you again Jim and Jarred in advance.

This is what the competitive market requires right now in Europe with the Alexa dominating it. A unit like it may change the whole image completely. Something RED must seriously consider.

The smaller market are the ones that are buying EPICs up big... Owner operators remember. And are looking for a cameras that do both raw and prores and keeps it all small still..
You have to be mad not to cater for the thousands that want this... over the hundreds that may want the big version....
My two cents worth :))))

I believe what you are saying but I think RED is after the Bigger Fish...like only Cinema people.

"You have to be mad not to cater for the thousands that want this... over the hundreds that may want the big version...."
That's funny you talk about catering to a need: How about Scarlet owners/operators/filmmakers of this beloved 32GB cards yet to be seen and they spoke highly of this way back in April (wt 512 Turbo) and had pictures of it too. So, if that was the case it would of been made available by now. Don't you agree?
6 months waiting...

Don't get me wrong, I would love to have this MT (Mark Tola) module but I don't think RED will be making it anytime soon. I could be wrong but that would lower sales of their new Mez Module. Correct?

Sorry but I will not agree with you. Of course RED is after the big fish with the MEIZLER MODULE , but the big fishes don't mind spent that money at all because simply they are ''big''. But there are not only the big fishes in this market. The bigger part of the market internationally, are the middle size production companies. I think RED must reconsider.

Alexa is kicking butt in Venezuela, I hope something like this comes up: I am getting tired of lecturing producers of the benefits of EPIC/Scarlet and then losing rentals to Alexa

aha...

Regarding your Meizler comment.... I think your EPIC with a Meizler far options out a F65 and a Arri... by quite a bit and is still smaller.. and cheaper over all.
Thats only if RED can use PRO RES one day in it.... , which could be a long time off knowing APPLES long winded approval processes.

I wouldn't go that far until it's shipping. Also consider F65 imaging and both cameras rotating shutter. The color and sharpness of the f65 make it a true contender. I truly think the F65 will be the imminent future threat. And if I had to choose between Epic and f65 for a movie or show it would not be a "no brainer" by any means. I'd have to spec the show and test. Anyway, that's another forum.

What I love about my epic right now is its size, weight and fps options. Color and DR is coin toss a bit in favor of the "others". Sharpness - all are more than sharp enough (I use SFX on just about every Epic show). But its main advantages really mean alot to me because many of the shows I work on are on location with insanely tight schedules - so every ounce matters. My Epic kitted with primes, MB20, Red Brick, EVF, Small HD, Touchscreen and FF4 can still sit comfortably atop my Miller 25 / Arrow legs. An Alexa with similar accessories, I have to break out 2060 and Ronfords. I just now added over twenty pounds. Now multiply that weight by five to ten pages a day and thirty plus set ups, that extra weight not only effects your efficiency but your creative choices. Size matters.

So I'll be resisting the Meizler at all costs for now.

+1, didn't I post this earlier. Hell, as long as this makes the thread up there. hehehe

yep and it sucks red is not transparent about what modules they are developing or even if they are considering this. It would not harm the competition to tell us if something like this is possible or when it will come right? We know they are going to make a small prores module, but why not chime in in this thread, and tell what the plans are?

I'm holding out for exactly this Mark. Jarred, I will pre order 3 please, and a few cases of Mini SSDs.

please

make

this

happen

soon......
