On a serious note, I'm involved in a domain name dispute with a domain squatter right now. It's really pissing me off.

...I would've deleted the first post as spam, but this was just too good to not make fun of. Maybe I need some sleep.

You guys are funnyas4k  ...as we say in blighty...

"4K Handles" for your amusement - classic British comedy of the 70s. :-)

Wonder if the humour translates to other countries, or even across the Atlantic for that matter!

...I'm curious what Jim paid for RED.com ???

Just speculation, but he probably didn't pay a whole lot if he handled it right. RED.COM was essentially unused up to the point Jim acquired it. Pretty much owned by a squatter. The ICANN, the organization that maintains many domains and sub-names like .COM and .NET, has policies to protect against squatting and to ensure fair use. In most cases, securing a proper business registration and trademark to coincide with the desired registration, ICANN will turn the issue over to a third-party arbitrator to decide ownership. But this can often be a long-drawn out process even though the outcome is usually in favor of the party holding the proper trademark. Unless the domain owner has in fact been using the domain for a viable business prior to the other party registering the trademark.

I've secured domains this way, it sucks, but all too often you run across squatters who think they can register a name and sell it for a boat load of money. A lot of that has to do with common urban legends about people who sold names back to large firms at a huge profit. Like the story about the guy who sold INTEL.COM to Intel for $1M or $10M or whatever... Not true.
