If you had the budget for a 24-70 II lens, but decided to get a few primes, which would they be (low light) within that budget?

To get 50mm on a RED EPIC, do i need a 35mm?

Thanks :)

ps: for filming, not photography

i know beginners are annoying but come oooonnn

What resolution on the EPIC? Different resolution have different crops, so your "focal length" (I think correct term would be field of view) will be different in 1K,2K,3K,4K,5K..

A 50mm lens is a 50mm lens no matter what. The question is what you are comparing it to. A 50mm lens will have a different field of view on a 5D, 7D, EPIC in different resolutions etc.

If I had the budget for a 24-70mm II and get primes instead? Rokinon Cine primes.

I'd get a 24 1.4, 35 1.4,85 1.4. They are currently working on a 50mm too. If you want something on the wider end, 14mm F2.8. They build it too!

Hope that helps!

You can find a lot of information about that subject on the forum.
But I would say for about 2000 pounds you could go the Rokinon way, and buy the 24/1.4, the 35/1.4 and the 85/1.4. Plus a Zeiss 50/1.4.

Thanks so much :) Yes I meant field of view on full sensor use. 5K.

I guess to rephrase i would say:

If I had a Red Epic and a Canon 5D side by side:

The 5D has a 85mm lens on. Which lens will give the Red Epic the same field of view and DOF, bokah etc.. as my 5D ?

LOVE this chart.. thanks Oliver.. So if i were to shoot 2K on the RED epic and wanted 85mm view, Id use a 25mm according to the chart..

Again, assuming FF35 is the full size sensor designed for Canon L photo lenses.
