I'm extremely curious to know if anyone has knowledge or ideas as to how much the RED will cost once the 5k Scarlet and EPICS make their debut.....

I'm guessing that with a 5k camera available starting at $7,000 that the RED may fall somewhere around 5,000? Any thoughts?

I believe RED has no intention of dropping their price for The One, even after the new cameras are released.

Really? Don't get me wrong its an amazing camera..but why would anyone pay more for a 4k when they can get a 5k for less?

i highly doubt that. The scarlet is 7K for the brain only. The red one is not just a brain. Plus it has other advantages over the scarlet. I'm pretty sure the RED ONE's will no longer even be for sale after the scarlet's and Epic's are released.

I probably should have been clearer by saying the RED body price...I wouldnt expect them to sell the entire package that cheap.

They must be selling them still, otherwise what would they do with the thousands of cameras they'll have once current RED owners trade in for the Epic X?

Cash 4 Gold ?

I know you meant the REDONE body only, but dude, a REDONE body is still much more equipped then a scarlet or epic brain. The brain for the scarlet and epic are just the sensor only. The REDONE body has much more than just a sensor.

I see where you're coming from....still wondering the price either way

Oh dude, I totally have all the knowledge on how much Red is gonna cost............Jim shared all info with me yesterday, 'cause i was the first to ask him......next question

i don't think anyone really knows at this point what they are planning on doing but it was my understanding that after the release of scarlet and epic RED was going to focus more on this modularity concept and move away from the REDONE. I don't really know what they plan on doing with all these used REDONE bodies when that time comes but if they sell them refurbished for a price that low ($5,000) then that would probably be the most revolutionary thing they have done yet.

i'm not looking for smart ass reponses, serious inquiries only...
Thanks for your input BIG O

it's a stupid question ryan that's the point. what's the dollar going to be worth in six months? who's going to win the next olympic silver medal in the 100meter dash for the men? what's the price of an hvx200 going to be?
the only one with the answer to your question is Jim and a few others at the top of the red chain...the rest is just nonsense babbling

We can only speculate about what will ultimately happen to the RED One. However, RED is making the Myterium-X, and eventually Monstro, sensor upgrades available for the RED One. They have said that R-Ones traded in will be brought up to current specs.

Looking at the product line-up, the RED One fits in its own little niche between Scarlet and Epic and is the less-modular cousin that some may still find attractive for certain things. It looks like the RED One will probably be the only camera to offer a S35-sized Monstro sensor when the time comes. It will also offer some of the features that the S35 Scarlet will not -- ramping, for example.

I would not be surprised if the price of the RED One is adjusted after Scarlet and Epic are shipping. But I don't see RED dropping the One anytime soon. Not for a few years anyway.

Good point Jeff, so it seems the REDs that are traded in may disappear for a short amount of time while they're updated, then reappear upgraded and available only after these upgrades are ready for release?

It's all just speculation at this point. MY advice is to just grab a comfy chair and kick back and watch till Jim starts releasing that info. He'll let us know when he's ready. He always does.

With all these different options of different brains and trading in it gets kind of confusing.

For instance if you're in the market for a Scarlet F35 (7,000 USD) and you have a RED One body or can get one for cheap, you could buy the Epic X (28000 USD - 17,500 USD = pay more 10,500 USD), then sell the brain for less than the new standalone price (let's say you get 20,500 USD), you then spend another 10,000 USD on extra accessories and you have a whole new camera system for free. The only thing you would loose is the higher frame rates. You also still have to old accessories of the RED One which you could sell but I kind of think they won't be worth much anymore. It could mean though there's going to be a lot of used Epic X brains on the market...

I also seem to remember Jim saying that each line has its limits. Or put another way, you pay for what you need. The cheaper than Red One Scarlets won't do everything the Red One does, and obviously, Epic will do more than Red One. Hence the price differences. Correct me if I'm wrong Jim.

I don't see a lot of people selling their Epic-X brains for less than they paid, though a few probably might.

However, the question of the price of the Red One after Scarlet is released is definitely a valid one. The R1 will have a few features better than Scarlet, but overall the S35 Scarlet is (according to current specs) a much better camera, with greater resolution, dynamic range, frame rates in full-rez (72fps bursts), 1080p recording, and the futureproofing of all the accessories for the Epic & Scarlet modular system.

Scarlet S35 brain w/PL mount= $7000
I/O module = $1000*
CF Recording module = $1000*
Wireless remote control = $1000*
TOTAL = $10,000*
*best guess, of course.

RED ONE (with I/O, CF recording & controller built-in) = $18,000

The question becomes: Are the advantages of the RED ONE (ramping, anamorphic support, high frame rates in 2K mode) worth approx. $8000, especially when the S35 Scarlet has so many other advantages over the R1?

In my opinion, no. But that's just me. And, of course, the R1 is available now, whereas the Scarlet S35 is still just a computer render.

...That's just the way I'm currently looking at it. However, this is all 110% wild-ass-speculationism. If there is such a thing. We just don't know.

Purely a pipedream, but I would love to see the trade-ins upgraded/refurbed and resold for like $13,000-$15,000 range.
