  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

Preventative Red Drive Maintenance?

just to calm some of the new guys down... ive never used the power adaptor only through fw800... and my red-drive experience is rock solid in that regard. never had corrupted data. never fried anything.
 
Red Drives use 12V - 1.5Amp.

I bought a couple extra AC adapters on the net for real cheap, like less than 5$ and they work fine.

I never use them drives without AC as it's always been really dodgy on the Macs. Some drives won't even mount not provided the external power. I might have been lucky so far, but I have my original drive from when I bought my camera (since October 2008) and bought an extra used one from a Reduser last spring and they never let me down.
 
Sidney, I'm glad to hear you've had that experience. I just got a drive back from repair (a client used it without AC power) which cost me $370 to replace the fried board, and I'm far from being the only one who's gone through this process.
