  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

Prepare to decide...

We have a pretty simple program.

1. You put up $1000 deposit. And get a reservation number.

2. When your number is called, you have 30 days to pay the full amount.

3. We deliver the camera.

I wish we could operate as a bank, but we aren't in that business. All of our time is spent trying to get better at our part and improve the cameras as best we can. It is too hard for us to keep track of exceptions. We just aren't set up for it. I don't think you will find another company in the industry that operates any other way... no matter how long they have been in business.

We get special requests about payment everyday. So far, we have not made an accommodation. We also know that as soon as we do, it will hit this forum and everyone will want the same treatment (as they should).

We appreciate our customers more than you know. We are all up until 4am working on our customer's behalf. Extended payment terms is just not something we do.

Hope that helps.

Jim

Jim, don't apologize. I was just looking for clarification so I could go to Plan B, and make contingency plans for Plan C. It's all good.

My camera # is up sometime in July, but my loan will not be finalized till August. Will there be any exceptions made, or will I be out of luck?

I am not on the fence I want this camera, taking longer than I thought to raise the funds.

What about those of us who are only planning to use the Birger Nikon mount, which is probably at least 3 months away (given that the Canon hasn't even yet shipped yet?) My RED # is in the 2200 range and will likely be coming up within the next 4 weeks, but I really don't want a $20 K paper weight, nor do I want my warranty period to start ticking away prematurely.

If I'm willing to go ahead and make full payment w/in 30 days of RED's email, can I at least delay shipping until the lens mount is done so that my camera warranty doesn't start running until I'm able to use the camera?

Jim,

Your not like other camera companies!

Thanks
Dave

I can see where an unavailable lens mount makes it tough as a user, but realistically I can't see Red holding their business captive to the shipping schedule of a third-party accessory... it may not have the properties you want, but maybe you can buy or rent the Red Nikon mount in the meantime?

Consider trading up your reservation # with one of the desperate folks in the 2000+ range. You can probably even make some $ doing that :) you lose your spot but you gain some time. Win win situation for both of ya.

jbeale,

I was lucky enough to get a Canon FD mount and a Nikon mount.

It helped me a lot, i bought my RED as soon as it was available and used it instantly.

I'm soooo happy that I got my camera before Build 16. Not that anyone here needs further motivation, but find a way. Don't let your reservation go.

Purchasing the Red was the single best career move I have ever made. At one point, I almost let it go because I didn't think I'd have the means. That would have been the worst career move I could have made.

That's all.

I think most of the remaining "fence sitters" are doing so for financial reasons. But all things must come to an end at some point. Sure, they lose their place in line, but within the next year or less, I'm sure camera demand will equalize and it will be possible for them to buy one when ready. It's getting easier to rent one, but I'm also seeing the demand for the camera increase too. The word is out, RED is awesome and many of the naysayers and skeptics are giving it a try... And liking it.

Does me no good as my lenses have no aperture ring. All my plans and a couple of recent (expensive) equipment acquisitions revolve around the Birger Nikon mount. I won't be able to use the birger for focus on older lenses and can't use the RED Nikon to control aperture on newer ones.

I'm willing to go ahead and pay the total, but I just want my shipment (and warranty clock) delayed.

Interesting... You couldn't take the camera and rent glass in the mean-time? I know, that costs money too, but may be better than just dumping money and letting RED continue to hold onto the camera. Not sure if they would do this anyway. Afterall, I'm not sure we can expect them to make concessions based on third-party solutions outside of their control.

No, I'm not buying a RED, I'm buying 2 REDS. And I'm buying them so I can move up from making those home movies.

Hey I think home movies are pretty cool...especially in West Texas biker bars.

I love fly on the wall cinema. Red could be the ultimate realization of that classic aesthetic. Don't let the naysayers knock ya.

Its a fair enough policy but I feel that fundamental accessories like EVF's should be aligned so they can ship with cameras.
Especially for purchasers in far away countries with difficult customs regulations. So much easier and cheaper doing the import in one hit.
Maybe all this is close anyway.
