  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

Premiere to FCP

premiere to FCP???

anyone?

If you, or anyone figures this out, I am VERY interested to know how to do it. So far all my tests have not worked. I can go to PP CS4 just fine either via FCP XML or EDL. But it looks like my only option to go back to FCP is via EDL. And the EDL that PP outputs is funky, and not correct. I opened the EDL in a test editor and file names were wrong (Edited from the R3D's). And when read by FCP the cut was wrong. And this was all on the same machine- MacPro- with both CS4 and FCP.

(Unfortunately for me, the editor is familiar with PP, and I am familiar with Color for grading. So we have been trying to figure out how to get the edit over to Color with no success so far ...)

One other possibility is to use AAF export from Premiere Pro, and use Automatic Duck to bring that into FCP. I have never even come close to trying this, and I don't know how closely Premiere's AAF is to Avid's (which is what Automatic Duck's tools is written for), but it might actually work.

ya.. I know that exporting from premiere as AAF to Vegas works.. and Avid works...

anyone FCP based? know is you can import a AAF file?

Hey Mike

There was a great presentation at the FCPUG gathering At NAB by Adobe (yes adobe) about moving projects back and forth between FCP and PP and AE. I have searched for a video copy of it online with no luck.

I would love to move FCP projects to PP and especially AE. IMO, Ae is vastly superior to Motion. I too am interested in the best way to achieve this. One of Adobe's gurus made it sound quite simple. If anyone knows how to best do this. Please advise.

Frank... FCP to PP is super easy and fun... Apple... File Export Apple XML.... then open premiere. File Import.... find it... bam... a folder is not in PP... double click the sequence... bam!!!

I'd love to see that video you talk about... We are trying to find the best way to take a .prprojt file... or export from Premiere a AAF and bring our edit into FCP...

Mike

During the presentation he clearly went both ways.
Fcp-PP, PP-AE, back to FCP.
It was one of the most interesting things I saw at FCPUG
Perhaps we can get someone from Adobe involved in our debate.

I saw Jason Levine's CS4 presentation at the FCPUG Supermeet in London, which I believe was basically the same one he gave at the NAB Supermeet. He certainly said that it was one way for now, but that round-tripping was something that Adobe has planned for the future.

Automatic Duck FCP Import? I think this is the best solution, but it comes with a price.

premiere to FCP???

Premiere to FCP is the problem right now- I would love to know how they are doing it / when it will be available from Adobe ...
