Hello,
I am aware that this is a reccurent problem. I remember seeing a similar post last week but for some reasons I can't find it anymore.

Here is my situation.
After months of endless editing of a feature film, I am about to export the final cut and send the project out for DI and VFX.
Today I opened PPCS6 and part of my timeline is offline.
Of course I tried to relink the media, but all I get is an error message saying "Unsupported File / File damaged".

This was an ongoing problem at the times of CS5-5.5,when I was spending weeks trying to understand the origin of this problem. Now it appears that CS6 is having the same kind of issues with RED media (or simply with the red importer).

Here is what happens in details:

When I relink the original r3d files I don't always get the "unsupported file" error. Long clips with more than one segment can be relinked with a little trick.
To give an example:
In the case of long clips, when Premiere asks "Where is A002_C001_100742_001?" if I select the first segment of the file (001) I get the "unsupported file" error.
Although if I select the second or third segment, like A002_C001_100742_002 or A002_C001_100742_003 the clip gets re-linked without problems. This makes me feel there is something wrong in the way Premiere imports RED media.
Although the real probelm is when I have short clips, where the camera only generated on r3d file/segment. In that case I get the error of unsupported format, and the clip stays offline. I can't think of a workaround for short clips.

I have the latest CS6.02 version.

This is driving me crazy, and right now 1/4 of my timeline is offline.

- I tried to update
- I tried to restart. With CS5.5 It used to solve the issue, but now it's not helping.
- I tried to open a new project, import the timeline from the old project but the same exact clips still result offline.
- Yesterday everything worked just fine
- the offline clips are not damaged.I checked.

Please, please, if anyone experienced this problem and has a possible solution let me know. I need to export this project and I am currently stuck with no possible solution.

THANKS!

Hi unfortunately only have FCPX as backup option.. but it looks like it does not support XML from Premiere like FCP7 used to.

I wish Adobe could take a minute to find a solution to this problem that has been going on for years now.

What sort of drives or storage system are you operating from? I don't have these problems unless I load up Premiere and a project before a RAID comes online or there's some other issue. I had a bad case of this on my iMac a few months ago and it turns out its because my Pegasus RAID was acting up and shortly after I had one of the drives fail. Replaced the faulty HDD and all has been well.

I have seen some reports of this issue off and on, but it always seems to come back to filesystem or drive issues more than the software.

Do you keep multiple files for major revisions of your edit? Can you go back and load older projects to see if the same files are having trouble linking?

I havn't seen these errors in a year or so on my PC...

Running from multiple RAID setups....

The only thing I can contribute is that I had seen this before, and mostly plugin related....as PPRO thinks the file is unsupported or damaged...not merely missing.

I know you have heard me harp on this before Nima....but check your plugins are updated to the current version....

If you can send an XML over to Davinci ect, and it imports fine....I would have to say we are back to plugin issues...remember updates can overwrite the plugins with old adobe ones (not sure if that is solved in 6.03....but definitely a problem with 6.02)

And not to set off a flame war....but a lot more issue's seem to occur on Adobe on Macs....
Not a problem with Macs, but perhaps Adobe's implementation...

Once again jump through the same trouble shooting hoops...

Check plugins
Import sequence into new...fresh project
Export FC XML, and import into new fresh project...

Good luck

Hmmm... I used to have plugin issues under CS5 where it would occasionally stop loading footage, usually R3Ds, as it would invalidate the plugin and just not load the plugin. Sometimes it was a pain to fix.

Have you done any updates to Premiere recently? If so, did you reinstall the Adobe Labs R3D importer after the update?

Thanks for your feedbacks.
A fresh install solved the problem, even though reinstalling a software in the middle of a job made me feel a bit uneasy.
Before doing that I clearing the cashe/cashe database and that sent the 80% of the project clips offline.

I work with a Dulce raid system as scratch drive, and the source media is stored in a MAc Pro internal raid.
I don't run any plugin in Premiere, but I have been having many issues when it come to RED media. For a long time I was not able to render the timeline for example.
I also had the infamous "Unkown Error" during exports. That is still a random issue, and a fresh instal did not help.

Thanks for your help! The problem is temporarily solved now... and everything seems to be back to normal, but I will keep looking into a possible solution for future issues.

Sounds like some glitch with the Adobe RED Importer... It does tend to act up from time to time. Be sure you install the one from the Adobe Labs site and re-install it any time Premiere or other Adobe apps that use it get an update.

Overall CS6 has been very stable for me here <knock wood>, but the current RED importer is over 8 or 9 months old now. I'm expecting newer and better support with the CS6.5 update, which should rear its head around NAB.

I had a similar issue, and re-installed the plug-ins.. hey presto it worked

BUT - now premier pro 5.5 is refusing to recognise my GTX 680 - works in other things, and the Nvidia website picks up the card just fine.

are there any tricks to get premier pro to play nicely? or am I going to have to reinstall? :(
