Hmm, this is all very concerning as I am debating on getting a RRX with my Dragon upgrade. I work in CC 2014 and I typically just import my .r3ds and work in a 1080p timeline. I never leave CC as I do all my grading and export from there. For performance goals, I'd like to edit at maybe 1/2 res smoothly in CC. Sounds like RRX is not really beneficial for the cost, correct? If so, should I invest money in a 10/12 core Mac Pro instead?
All depends on how they implement the fixes, there's some serious bugs right now in the R3D chain, especially using RR-X. This is my experience though, everyone could be different. Before this, Epic with Red Rocket original and GTX 780, never skipped a beat. Then again, now I'm also editing 6K at the RC lowest compression off an SSD internal raid with only GPU debayer and things are going good. I rarely use RCX because I'm usually editing R3Ds not tweaking and exporting out of RCX. Something to think about for sure. It's interesting though, I seem to get decent playback in PPro CC 2014 with GPU debayer but mediocre playback in RCX with GPU debayer. All off a 2TB SSD RAID 0. There's a lot of changes to the RED ecosystem right now that are going to take a while to smooth out I feel like.
