I started the project in Premiere CS6 in 2012. About 6 months ago I updated to CC and everything was working great. Last week I updated CC again and when I opened the project it said, "This project needs to be converted to the latest version..." So, I converted it. Now when I drag any type of clip to the timeline (doesn't matter size), from either Media Browser or Project Folder, it takes several minutes for the clip to load onto the timeline before I can play it. If it touch the screen while it's trying to put the clip on the timeline, then it freezes. I've got lots of clips to place on the timeline, so I can't wait 3-5 mins for each clip to load onto the timeline before I can play it. I never had that issue before.

If I create a new project and drag clips onto that timeline, then there is no problem - they load on the timeline and play right away.

I don't want to import the project into a new project because it will be a nightmare to setup. This project is massive - multiple sequences that total about 6+ hours of footage. Took over a year to edit.

Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated. Desperately need some assistance, please.

If you import a bunch of clips at once, it doesn't seem to hang for any longer than if you import one clip.

Depends on the type of clip.

But hey, at least we have "Morph cut" and "essential graphics" so who cares if the performance of the program has gone completely to shit /s.

Exact same happens with me. Contacted adobe support who after about an hour of screen share help told me to live with it - "the files are very large so it takes this long to import". No suggestion of a workaround or that it will be fixed in future. Very close to pulling the plug on Premiere. Can import and use straight away in Davinci

Which exact version are you running? V11.1.2??

Yes, we're running 11.1.2, but we've rolled back to try other versions and it crashes as well. The problem looks like it's being introduced when it's asking me to covert the project into a new project file. I don't understand why a Premiere CC project is asking it to convert to a Premiere CC project. I'm pretty confident this is where the problem is happening because if I just create a new project file, then the footage imports without any problem.
