Ok, so, contrary to all wisdom, I installed the 5.0.3 update, assuming it would fix things. Instead, it appears to have left me in a very bad way.

My situation, is that it will not import all the files. I have a feature film edit here, with over 10,000 files loaded into the project. On 5.0.1, I had no stability issues, no import issues, and no playback issues. Now, I have all of the above. I can't load the project file (REDImportServer.exe crashes... well, all of them do), it will not playback video, and it the whole program is massively unstable.

So what do I do? I roll back to 5.0.1. Problem? I need the updated MX color science, because the whole film was shot on the MX sensor. No biggie, I'll just download it fro- Oh no. Where is it? It has disappeared! It hath been removed! Ok, well, maybe 5.0.2 will wor- of course. It's gone too. I should have expected that.

So now I'm left in a very bad way, and I have deadlines to meet here. Any solutions? Is there still a place to get the MX color interpreter for 5.0.1?

Needless to say, I'm very frustrated, after several days attempting to get the project to import correctly, and realizing that there is no simple solution to this. Am I completely alone in experience this?

Also, (a side note) thousands of the R3D files will not import at all. They list as 'corrupted', when I know for a fact they import fine into 5.0.1.

Thanks guys.

After my update, I noticed that when you load a project and your timeline cursor is on a clip, it often (always) crashes redimportserver.exe

Did you try to move the cursor before it crash ? that works for me every day.

Every instance of RedImportServer.exe crashes during loading of the project file. I have over 8000 R3D files referenced in one project, and had perfect stability before the 5.0.3 update. Anybody know what changed?

I'll try having all sequences closed and see if that makes a difference. So far, I have moved the 'cursor' and it hasn't helped. I also closed all but one sequence.

Stefan

I have tried uninstalling and reinstalling. No progress.

You aren't installing the labs release on top of 5.0.3 are you? We have had 1 or 2 people run into a strange bug that causes crashing in the RED SDK. It is very rare. If you remove all PPro bits and reinstall 5.0 and update to 5.0.3 and don't go near the labs release and it still happens send me a private message and I might be able to hook you up...

Cheers

I'm using a PC. Core i7 Extreme, 12 Gigs of RAM, RAID 0 project drive, Windows 7 Ultimate. System drive is a solid state.

I did a complete clean reinstall of CS5, no luck. I'm not installing Labs with 5.0.3, no.

It's really beginning to frustrate me. If I could just roll back to my original version, that would be fine. I had no problems there, why has the update ruined everything?

I was on a conference chat with Al Mooney today and asked him about this problem, he promised to get back to me afterwards, but he has no contact information for me at all, and I have no way of contacting him. It was like my problem was brushed under the rug during the Q/A, and then I was ditched after the session.

Here's the thing: The problem will only be experienced under these circumstances (from what I've read).

PC. Premiere Pro CS5 5.0.3.
Large RED project, with footage from the MX sensor, and audio.

I imagine there are very few users out there who have upgraded to 5.0.3 who are doing a project with this many files. But it's driving me crazy. The RED importers all crash consistently within the first two thousand files. When I try to import whichever files it leaves out, it says that the files are damaged or corrupt.

However, they open fine in After Effects. They are not corrupt.

This is beyond frustrating.

Also, the system was responsive, snappy and happy before. With this new update, it barely functions. It takes 10 seconds minimum before it will play after a command, and it freezes frequently, only to recover several minutes later.

My overarching question for anyone from Adobe: What Changed? Why is the whole thing so sluggish, so unstable, and so frustratingly unpredictable?

Let me just give a bit of background. I'm a big time Adobe lover, and have been using Premiere to edit RED footage since October, 2008. CS3 and Cineform, and we were editing 4k footage right in the program. This April/May, we shot a feature using the RED with an MX sensor. We upgraded to CS5, and worked with the footage natively. And it was awesome.

Since that time, we've been editing without any difficulty, a rather large project file. Oh, we did a little tweak now and then to increase performance (3.6 terabytes of R3D files) but overall, it was solid as a rock. All my FCP friends were blown away and ready to convert.

However, this one little update feels like it's launched CS5 back to the stone ages, loading this same project file. I've been battling this thing for a week now, to no avail. I absolutely can't fathom what has happened here.

I think I am actually. I installed Premiere from your website (trial or lab i don't remember) because I needed to start working, meanwhile ordering the Cs5 collection and install it the next day (the shipping departement in Europe is really impressive)... I'll re install the package soon I guess :)

PM David like he suggested!

And in future always keep a copy of your install files for stable versions. I have a complete library of Red files specifically so I can roll back if necessary.

Hey John, i posted here several months ago about the very same problem. And here I am still with no real answer. A few people mentioned something about (r3d files with audio attached is the problem) but that makes no sense as i am fine in 5.0.1
i too am cutting a 2 hour film shot on red mx 4k and in 5.0.1 (no problems at all) except the wrong color space. But every single time i load project after installing 5.0.3 update it will not load project. Maybe you and me are the only ones who have this problem? if thats the case then i highly doubt we are the only people who have r3d's with audio on them.

you are not the only ones, 5.0.3 is not stable, stick with 5.0.1.
