Export EDL from Premier 5.5 import EDL into RedcineX 501 Timeline length is out by about 4 seconds to long.

Any thoughts on this.

No checked that first.

I am sure I read on here some time ago that someone had a similar problem, but it was some time ago.

Did you set the EDL settings correcty with END being +1 frame or not? Change it from whatever it is now to the other and compare. A quick way to check is do the number of events in the EDL add up to ~ 4 seconds of duration? For example, at 25fps, the EDL would have 100 events. f so, then the setting is the likely culprit.

I have not touched the EDL settings, but will see if I can try it now. Thanks

I cant see where to change the EDL settings in PPro.

It's in REDCINE that these settings are set, not in the NLE (and shouldn't be in the NLE).

EDL's by specification always have the END or OUT point timecode as +1. This is the way EDL's an videotape workflow have always worked. Unlike film lists which is always the frame reference in the shot. This is sometimes referred to as INSIDE/INSIDE counts, whereas an EDL would then be referred to as INSIDE/OUTSIDE.

I haven't figured out a reason for having that setting in REDCINE X, since CMX EDL's are always +1 on the out, but there might be a workflow somewhere that requires it - but it points to the issue of using 20 year old specifications in current workflows with all the limitations that come with it for linear tape controllers. But then again, you are seeing the "variations on a theme" with the 16 & 32 character EDL templates in Media Composer that need to extend the EDL to support these recent formats.

Thanks Michael.
I'll have another look in RCX to find the settings, it does sound that you are right because the number of cuts times 1 frame works out about the difference I am seeing.

Which would go to show that REDCINE is not really a conform system, and while it can do some of the functions of one, users needs to be aware of some of the issues that come with that. I love REDCINE X as a dailies processor whether it be for offline, or from a pull list for an eventual online - in those scenarios, the +1 is not a big issue as pulls usually come with handles. Or at the very least, REDCINE X should assume that a CMX EDL import is +1 as a default position. This is the second time in two days this has come up.
