  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

Predictions...

Nobody thinks that there is gonna be a little surprise about the timing fo teh misterium-X sensor upgrade for the Red One?

David Fincher is already shooting with it, so maybe they will make it available for christmas?

APS-C / S35 sized sensors require larger lenses and more critical focusing which is more negative than positive for some applications. I think a 2/3" sensor offering from RED is a nice addition to their lineup. Assuming it offers a 3K RAW data set it should substantially outperform other cameras in its class and, bonus, cut well with other RED generated footy.

They were still tweaking ASIC's just a few weeks ago. Need time for that and the manufacturing process. I doubt Xmas - I'm thinking 2nd quarter 2010. That's close enough.

See the writing on the wall:)

1: Mysterium X sensor upgrade for the Redone.

2: A schedule for Epic and Scarlet release 4/10 deliver, 7/2010

3: Red Coffee Mug in the Red Store

4: New Facility in Vegas for RED Digital Cinema Slot Machines:)

:closed2ur0:

1. Manufacturing already in progress for M-X models

2. RED 1 upgrade by Thanksgiving

3. Epic-X and 2/3" Scarlets released by Christmas. ( I know... I know... wishful thinking:drool5:)

3. S35 Scarlets and Epics after Epic-X demand is met.

1. The thread will contain the word "awesome" more than it needs too.
2. Red One owners will be happy because of the FREE "send back your R1 and we'll send you an Epic" program announcement.
3. The announcement will have some people saying Canon and Nikon are dead.
4. Nobody will get my sense of humour.

APS-C would be far too close to s35 to be a worthy product distinction.(snip)

I was actually grouping them together as, for all intents and purposes, the same thing. To clarify, I see these "classes" of cameras based on sensor size:

1/2" and under

16mm, Super16mm, 2/3"

S35, APS-C, other similar variants

Full Frame 35mm

Medium format and beyond

My post was in response to an earlier one and was intended to note that 2/3" sensors have some advantages, particularly smaller size and easier to keep in focus.

RED RAY.
Its been very quiet...

1) Free bologna sandwich with every Epic
2) Some people will complain about the bologna sandwich
3) Jim will counter with a $20 upgrade to trade in bologna sandwich for Red production thong.
4) Production thong will be too tight
5) More complaints - only now they are in a higher pitch
6) Firmware upgrade to thong, causing it to gyrate in 4 directions
7) People are finally happy for they discover that the gyrating production thong now doubles as an inexpensive helicopter mount, eliminating all drop frames on the Red drive when using the "new-fangled-4-way-gyrating-Red-production-thong" on a helicopter
8) Thong eventually gets soiled (because shit happens in this business)
9) More complaints

LOL! How long did it take you to come up with this:)

My favorite quote of the day so far, thanks for giving me something to laugh at.

any other thoughts that the timing of this announcement may be strategic timing for the upcoming holidays? or perhaps it just so happens that they're just now ready to release information... i don't want to get my hopes up too much, but you've gotta wonder.
