  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

Powering the Epic MX or Dragon with LIPO 4S

They can be used with a lemo and I have a deans adapter to 4S lipo to power the Epic. I would test larger than a 2600 lipo. My experience using lipo's with red cameras is they do indeed draw them down every 15-20 minutes with a 2600 mah sized battery. Real pain in the ass if you are underwater.. Look at the 8000 mah size. I think Quadrocopter sells cables with lemo power to lipo for Red..
Good Luck!

I use this cable with 4s 4000mAh lipo battery to powering Red and gimbal on my heavy okto.

I use lipos for gimbal work or powering my monitor. 5000 Mah 4s. Bought a Lipo to Red cable from Gimbal User. I get at least and hour and half or more. In hindsite I'd go with 3500 - 4000 man for weight savings. Found a decent charger on Amazon.

The one downside is the voltage reader which you must have all seem to have the loudest alarm when they get to 20 %.

I am looking into the same thing. I would want to use them for lightweight handheld work. What would you all say is the best battery brand? Also if anyone is using this for a lightweight handheld config would you mind posting some pics?

Thanks!

Jonathan

What batts do you use? How much time do they give?

I use Turnigy 5000 man 4s 25C. I get about an hour and 15 min of run time on Ronin powering Epic (nothing else). That said, the alarm, is not cool on set. It's loud as hell. I'd just set your iPhone alarm to have you change it on the hour instead of blowing a sound take or having the set annoyed at you. I also have my AC's constantly check the voltage but sometimes they forget and we get the alarm. So my new protocol is set your smart phone timer. I'm also going smaller 3200 Mah batteries as the 5000 mah can be a bit bulky. The 3200's will get me 45 min which is acceptable and save a bit of weight/bulk.

Thanks for getting back to me! So when the alarm goes off that means its time to switch batts or is it a frame of reference?

Also, look out for the C number, i.e. the highest discharge number. It is a good idea to have a lower draw than what the LiPo can deliver, that way it will not warm up as much.

There are some good primers on LiPos on RC fora.

Sorry do you need a higher C or lower C number? Sorry I am lipo illiterate and it hurts my brain a bit. :) What is a good C number to power the RED basically?
