  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

Postia pappi Jaakobille / Letters to Father Jakob

My method was to shoot an exposure test before the shoot and look at that with the colorist. Then in the shoot I tried to get a full exposure to the hightlight and see in the monitor how much fill light felt appropriate. My rating was 250 ASA.

The grading was done in a Lustre suite in a company called Generator Post (Finlnad) with a really good guy called Timo Luomanen. We worked quite hard to get the skin tones right.

Thanks, I appreciate the reply. :)

So if I am understanding you correctly, then it sounds like you exposed for the highlights and lit for the shadows. Did you bother with false color at all, or just go from your meter based off of your previous testing?

Maybe you should bring your wife for a language course over here and come and share your camera wisdom with the finnish peers? Summertime is really nice here and there is a beautiful light in the night time...

My wife certainly likes that idea! She once went to the Midnight Sun Film Festival in Sodankyla, so she's aware of the summer light at night...

But I don't think I would have anything to teach you guys, judging from the high quality of your work.

Yes, this goes for all the scenes dealing with natural light / exterior. As for the interior (which was a practical location) we were able the schedule the shoot in a way that the sun never hit directly into the rooms we were shooting in. So there the highlight was first created by our own lighting - the (key) light level there was based on my metering and then the fill light was based mostly on my judgement on the HD monitor.

So I didn´t use the false color at all.

I hope this answers your question a bit better...

Yep, that does, thanks for the information. :)
