  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

Post Your Scarlet-X Rig

Hi Phillip,

Would mind share the details of your rig?

Thanks Hiroe

Sure. Wooden Camera across the board kind of. Shoulder rig with A-Lock, top plate, handle, bottom plate, 19mm Bridge Plate, Chrosziel Telescoping Rods, Lanparte Follow Focus, which....is super amazing. The quality is astonishing for the price...super solid. Very impressed so far with the ff.

Cheers.

@ John Desay:
We tested both the Lanparte and the TrusMT FF, and now that TrusMT fixed their adjustable arm problem (it slipped in the older version) it's simply the best below 800 U$ !

Good to hear they fixed it. I'm going to try to get the replacement.

I know I sounded like a salesperson and I have not tried the TrusMT FF...all I can say is that the Lanparte is built very solid with no backlash. You can find a deal including the wip for 450 bucks. I do like to have one adjustable focus ring too instead of three. I guess in the end just try them out before you buy...and see which fits better.

This is how I roll, light, simple and gets the job done very well!

Hi Philipp,
Can you explain how work the Chrosziel Telescoping Rods;from what i see and when a matte box is attached to the end of the telescopic rods and if the rods are recessed to the max,it's impossible to rotate them to make them longer....
You have ti disengage the matte box...Am i right.

@ Les

All I can assume with Dragon is that you get 5k @ 24,25,30 fps. So when I switch to 5k on Scarlet it's enlightening to see just how much cropping there is on the the Shoot 35 @ about 12mm on the Tokina. I suspect similar results on the O Box. I know Phil is running with an O box on "Skully" be nice to find out just what happens at 5K with the tonkina around 12 mm which he also has. Hint Hint Phil if your reading this ......

P.S. I reckon people who are buying MBs right now need to give careful consideration to not what just works right now .......but also the future...... if you're considering Dragon upgrade......same with lenses for that matter !

Second this. My MMB1 is a no go @5k and wide angle lenses. Same for 17-50 RPZ.
Research carefully when shoppin for lenses and matte boxes if you're planning to shoot 5k.

Cheers,

Milan

Hey Jean,
There is also the option to loosen and turn the rods from the other side to tighten it, once the matte box is attached to the end.

Here's the updated rig with telescoping arm and hoodman cover. I have to say....it's super comfortable and I can go free-hand with this.

Dustin, what's your outrigger handle? Or where's it from? Thanks!

Sorta tough to see with my arm in the way, client took this photo during a shot setup. Stuff you see:Sticks: Cartoni Focus head and matching legsBack half of my Clutch- Red Quick Release Platform (Dovetail), DSMC Shoulder Pad, Auxiliary support pad. I set up my Clutch using a second Universal Mount on the front rods to mount the Collarbone and handles so I can still run LW15mm off my Modular Assault Plate without the bracket running into the Collarbone. When I go to sticks, I just release the 19mm rods from the QR baseplate.Wooden Camera A-Lock on the back of the accessory attachment bracket that holds the rear support pad. On that is the Wooden Camera Quickback with Switronix Battery Plate.Viewfactor Shuttle Mount attached to Wooden Camera's SWAT Clamp. Mount the Redmote to that in a lot of configurations.Red Tactical Top Plate, Tactical Top HandleWooden Camera EVF Mount with 4" arm, holding the old school Red One EVF. I'm picking up the TVLogic/Alphatron EVF-035W once it starts shipping for a lighter viewing option.Olympus scratch micRed DSMC Modular Assault Plate Pack with Cinema Oxide 15mm carbon rods (custom 8" cut)Redrock Micro Follow Focus V2- hopefully I'll be able to move up to an O'Connor O-Focus soonShoot35 Matte Box (4x4 filters, they're working on 4x5.65 upgrade but I'm doing well with 4x4)Lens I'm using there is a Zeiss Jena 180mm f/2.8. The shot turned out quite nicely!

Phillipp, thanks for posting your rig and experience. I've been doing a ton of research in trying to figure out the best shoulder rig and you've helped me choose the WC system. Placed my order with Ryan today.

Here is my back of the pickup truck temperpedic bead pillow stabilizer rig.... I know, I know, It's state of the art. Just how on earth are y'all gonna keep up with the Joneses? BTW I was tied off with that rope behind me. There's no way I was going to cruise down the highway at 70mph without at least a rope!

Hey Mikael,
Quick question(s): how do you like using the red mote as your main form of control (assuming you don't have a touchscreen or side handle)? And can you format the REDmag using the REDmote?

Great looking minimal rig, by the way.

The Redmote can format SSDs when interacting with the menus on the output monitor (e.g. in remote mode with menus displayed on the SmallHD display in the picture you quoted) but as far as I can tell you can't format in Local mode on the Redmote.

Oh, kay... cool, I was confused about what the two different modes did... Would you happen to know if you can disable all the video overlay (goalposts, stop lights, histogram) on the monitor when you hit record? I'm still hoping to use an off board recorder (like the Pix or Samurai/Ninja) as the monitor as a short-term/temporary solution.
