So after going through my collection of HDV tapes, I decided to take a trip down memory lane and look at the first film I ever shot. I had a DVD copy but I never directly uploaded the HDV quality version to the web so I used by Vimeo account which I have had for years but never used.

This was pre DSLR boom. Too bad my college did not get on board with RED but try convincing a school with a small communication department to drop that kind of cash on a movie camera. Anyways this was shot on now ancient technology using a Sony HVR-Z5U I believe. I don't miss HDV tapes at all. Ah, there is nothing quite like HDV 108060i (sarcasm). This was a really fun project and it was my first crack at writing, directing, editing and working as a cinematographer. I now understand why these roles are often handled by different people.

Looking back, the writing really makes me cringe :(

This was shot in one day in a hotel in San Antonio TX and edited in a couple of nights. I remember running around hotel hallways without permits and using prop guns. Ya, that was really smart (more sarcasm). It was a stressful shoot but it was fun.

Anyways, this got me thinking. What if there was a thread where people could show their early filmmaking attempts? So if you feel like sharing, post the first film you ever shot. I'm hoping someone has a Super 8 gem they are just waiting to dust off. If you don't have the film in digital form, post anyways about you first filmmaking experience. I'm sure there are some interesting stories floating around.

Lucky enough to shoot on 16mm for my first film. I like just about all of it except the last shot. I'm not sure what I was thinking at that point. I was DP on it.

Steve, I actually really like the last shot. Very stylish, I like it.

Very cool Martin :)

This is my first, a 35mm experimental documentary about Ghost town and the Mystique of the Western Landscape. Title, "Dead Lonesome."

Not quite my first, but my first major production. I'm not counting the small projects that we did in film school that took less than a day. Directed by me....

(yes, shot on Red)

Cool stuff guys.

This was my first video that I wrote, directed, edited, and composited. We did it just for a short piece for the main actor Brandon Crockett's demo reel. We had a lot of fun with it. It was all shot in about 4 hours in a friends bar. Hope you all enjoy.

Other than high school shorts, this is my first "real film" I worked on. Class project in college, I was assigned Director of Photography...it was only after this class and short did I ever take any classes on cinematography and grow to learn and love the art. But up to this short, I knew absolutely nothing about it, ha. Canon XL-1. I lit and operated all but 2 scenes. And it doesn't hold up too well, but hey...there's a reason it's the first, right?

I already posted this in it's own thread: http://reduser.net/forum/showthread.php?65430-MY-SHORT-FILM

I consider this to be my first official film. It was screened in all major citys of Denmark and later shown on national television. It was later in competition at Plus Camerimage 2010.

Enjoy! And thanks! ;)
