I wasn't planning on messing with Google's new Chrome browser, but I decided to download and give it a try on a whim. Lo and behold, it's like 5 times faster than IE or Mozilla on my PC. Very convenient, too.

One notable feature is that your "home" page is basically a listing of top 9 sites you visit most, which is kind of cool.

Heh... I didn't realize how often I check Drudge.

Hope you read the user agreement "...all material that pass through the app belongs to google..."

..not good for uploading images cause you just given them away.

I've just scrapped most of my social networking sites.....I was spending way too much time checking facebook and other stuff than I should have been.....better this way.

Google fixed that.

Opera has been my browser of choice for about 6 months now. It is much, MUCH faster than IE or Firefox. And that "home page" feature on Chrome is taken directly from Opera. It's called "Speed Dial" on Opera and has been there for a long time. ; )

Opera also has gestural editing, which rocks. Hold down the right-mouse button, and move the mouse left - goes back a page. Move forward - goes forward a page. Move down and to the right, closes a page. The tabs are also not locked. They are individual windows which can be resized, tiled, etc.

The add-ons are not as strong as Firefox, which is my one biggest complaint. But, for what I do with a browser, it is head and shoulders above the rest.

Just my increasingly devalued US$.02...

I see a lot of talk here, but no screenshots. :whistling:

Firefox has speed dial too...

Well, ya could just install it yourself. : )

But here are a few snapshots:

Speed Dial, the Opera Mail Client, which I love for all my Gmail and Yahoo email.

And just for grins, a shot of my fairly customized XP desktop. There was a thread on Lifehacker awhile ago with users desktops. I borrowed liberally from several of those.

Agree with Luki on Opera's awesomeness.

Chrome is pretty amazing though. Has anyone checked out the 46-page geeky comic book?

I think any camera company could do well to learn from the emphasis they put on:
1. openness and trust in the community
2. assuming everything will fail - BUT minimizing the points where failure is possible, and trying to minimize the damage caused by failures
3. proper resource allocation towards bug testing & QA

They don't just say "hey, we're in Beta, what do you expect? Send us bug reports, please!" - they have their massive web crawler farm test out each browser build on the tens of thousands of web pages. And that's just the beginning.

They clearly anticipated many problems and made the management decision to allocate resources to dealing with these problems.

Sometimes I feel that in the case of Red, the "massive testing farm" is the users themselves. That's a Microsoft / Apple philosophy, not a Google philosophy, and I hope Red moves further in the Google direction.

lifehacker, huh? I'll have to check that out.

my real purpose for this thread was to see where you hooligans hang out.

yeah I figured if everyone posted their start page, i'd learn about some sites i had been missing.

I see a lot of talk here, but no screenshots. :whistling:

I think people are embarrased to show and tell.

I better not post mine. Don't want to be kicked off RedUser or get arrested or anything. :innocent:
