Hi guys,
A film that I shot late last year was moving into the grading/online/film-out stage soon. For budgetary reasons, we had to move to a different post house. So we started talking to them...
As we understand from this post house, their prefered workflow involves de-bayering and exporting the R3D files via RedCineX, then bring it into Apple Color to do the grade, after which moved the graded material to ANOTHER facility into a Da Vinci system AND do minor tweaking before exporting out for the film-out.
Unfortunately, I wasn't terribly savvy with this type of workflow. My previous film was done on Quantel with a very straightforward DPX output to the film out facility. Nothing as complicated as the one suggested to us by this post house.
So, can I get your views on this post house workflow? Is it just bollocks or am I missing out critical information to make this workflow a viable option?
Last question: would a Redlogfilm gamma couple with RedColor2 be the best combi for an output from RedCineX? Should we go with a 16bit DPX or the 10bit version?
Any advise from post gurus would be VERY VERY much appreciated! Thanks guys!
Bests,
Derrick
