I am so happy Tattoo is underway. It marks real movement and I can feel the excitement winding up.

As early RED users we are all quite pleased and impressed with how hard the RED team has worked and the great products they have delivered.

I am thinking about what happens after Tattoo when stage 2 begins. There was no reservation number given when entering stage 2 and there has been discussion about delivery date vs. reservation number as the order in which cameras are released to private users.

I was hoping to start this thread to have a discussion about how other user feel about what is fair in terms of delivery.

So:

1. Should rental houses get a priority? (because the buy more or can have more cameras in the field testing)

2. Should your initial RED reservation number matter?

3. Should delivery date be most important?

4. Should stage 2 deposit date matter? (since they extended the deadline, should pre deadliners be given precedence)

5.Maybe the reservation system should be abandoned?

I'm just interested to see what the wider community thinks. This may have been discussed or decided upon already by RED and if it has then maybe I could ask you to share what you know.

Many thanks.

Peace.

David

1. No
2. Yes
3. Yes
4. Yes
5. No

Reason's?
1. See 2 and 3 below
2. Its called an owner LOYALTY program.
3. See reason #2
4. Risk = Reward
5. It will be abandoned, right after Stage 2 and 3 are completed. (With the exception of those few holding out for a Monstro brain trade-in)

One of the best things about RED, is how much pride they take in rewarding their loyal customers.

4. Should stage 2 deposit date matter? (since they extended the deadline, should pre deadliners be given precedence)

I don't know for the others, but they specifically said that the deposit date wouldn't matter in terms of delivery order. Changing that would piss many people off, including myself who waited as long as I could.

It's not a matter of risk, its a matter of keeping our money in our pocket for as long as we can.

1. Should rental houses get a priority? (because the buy more or can have more cameras in the field testing)

No. If they were smart they would have bought up any low-delivery date camera that ever came up for sale.

2. Should your initial RED reservation number matter?

No. It is Delivery Date that matters. Not serial / reservation number.

3. Should delivery date be most important?

Yes.

4. Should stage 2 deposit date matter? (since they extended the deadline, should pre deadliners be given precedence)

No.

No. If a brand new (and very important) product suddenly becomes available in the Store, what about those early Red adopters (i.e. early delivery) who are out working and didn't get a chance to make it to the store to place an order before the couple thousand brand new Scarlet users who did.

I think with certain important products there should still be a priority for the early Red adopters.
Only thing I can think of is that is takes a bit more logistics support by the Reps.

David, did Red officially say they began Tattoo? I can't find that.. I know the new SS film is being shot on Tattoo but that doesn't start until September. There is so much speculation around Tattoo. It's like a UFO or something. Some people are saying Stage II is a few weeks ago. Others have stated that Tattoo hasn't begun. Others have stated that Jim canceled Tattoo altogether! Rumors are running rampant on sets these days... Good thing the Red One MX is still kicking ass and taking names. The one thing I speculate is that RedOne will last a really long time in this industry, despite new offerings from the same company. Be. Here. Now.

Rick,

I assume that tattoo is underway (or close, within two weeks) based on the SS announcement, but I am certainly not trying to be part of the FUD/rumour mill.

Marketing an "official announcements" can be a bit of a blur some times.

David

Jim just said on July 25th:

We are very, very close to releasing Tattoo.

Jim

Jim and Jarred originally said Tattoo would last around 3 months. The question is, since they've had working prototypes for 5 months now, will the Tattoo beta test be shorter?

For what it's worth, which isn't much since this is all speculation, I agree with Tim's response with the exception of number 5.

It's been stated that future parts and accessories will be delivered with priority going by Stage number.

FYI- Red stated prior to taking the deposits that deposit date has zero baring on priority. They also stated that delivery date of your Red One is the delivery order for Epic.

David,
I dont think Tattoo has started. Jim just announced that Soderbergh would have Tattoo by sometime in September. So, if SS is the first in Tattoo, then we might be a month away from Tattoo. Remember, Tattoo (seeing how many times I can include this word in my paragraph) is a camera BETA program, which comes after the ALPHA program. Right now there are alpha protos out and about (like the Fincher pic).

Secondly, Jim made it loud and clear that each stage goes by order of reservation number. So it'll be.
Stage 2 1->8000 (or whatever we're up to now), then the numbers start over for those who did stage 3.

My plans are all based on the fact that as a Stage 2 guy, i'm in the first batch of S2 and I will be Epic #27

I thought it was delivery date. I'd prefer reservation number since I waited until the Nikon mount was available. Seems a little bogus to get penalized for that, but OTOH RED knows how many Stage 2's they have should ramp up production accordingly. I'm not sure there needs to be a huge difference between the first Stage 2 and the last Stage 2 getting out the door.

Seems like the manufacturing plant would do a "run" for all Stage 2's and really knock them out, right?

Hey David,
I hope my post wasnt too direct or offensive!
Things in Oregon are super well, i'm on the verge of doing the inadvisable in renegade productions, lol.
I hope things are well for you, you're welcome back any time! There are plenty more McMenamins for us to visit

Not at all Shawn. I was looking for an update and I got it.

I think it is great that things will proceed according to delivery date.

David

Original reservation number and also when the camera was actually paid for is the most fair system. Especially if there was a large time gap between paying for the camera and actual despatch or delivery.
