Hi there,
I'm working on the pre-pre production of a project I'd very much like to be shot with the RED ONE, but I have a bit of trouble figuring out how to dispatch and organize several steps of post-production, and by extension assessing cost. My main concern is how to distribute responsibility.
Here's the picture (workload). The we're looking at a 1,5mil$ production, two camera shoot (one of the main characters is a twelve years old kid), shooting a total of about an hour or two of footage per day. Stuff is shot on location, more or less remote. Finish is most likely film-out with a respectable DI. There will be some VFX integration shots (3D monsters) and compositing.
My concerns are the following. I'm first wondering how to handle dailies. Should I shift that to a DIT (get him to handle it, hire people and orchestrate the thing) to keep it closer to the set and reduce turnaround (if it does) or should my rushes go out to a post house and be turned into dailies and brought back? Keep in mind I'm also trying to figure this cost-wise.
Parallel to that, I'm wondering whether all the data handling should be kept 'in-house' or be sent outside, considering we don't know if who our editor will be and if he'll even be affiliated with the aforementioned post-house. We also don't know if the post-house will be handling the VFX shots.
I just love the idea of using flash cards like film rolls. Get a bucketful of 'em, shoot them, can them, get a PA to get them to the post house (or wherever), see them the next morning. Cost-effectiveness?
Your input would be very much appreciated.
EDIT : Even though I'm based in Montréal, the film is to be shot in the southern-central US (so far).
