We just finished shooting a music video for
John Legend and Andre 3000.

For whatever reason one of the cameras delivered mostly 4K 2 to 1 footage
but also delivered lots of 4K 16X9 footage.

Problem is final output is to be in 2K 2to1 aspect ratio.

But many of the shots are stuck in 16X9
Ideally I am going to have to convert the 16X9 footage into 2to1 footage.

My guess is that i am going to have to cut or crop and loose either some of the top or some of the bottom on a per clip basis.
Any good ideas on how you guys would handle this???

THANK you.

You're not seriously delivering a music video at 2K are you?

Probably you want to get everything in the same format to make editing as smooth as possible. So I'd transcode everything to 16x9 1080p (2:1 stuff would have black bars added).

When you're done with the main edit, add 2:1 black bars over everything (a transparent pict file on the top video track will do). Nudge your 16x9 material up or down to taste so the composition is as nice as possible...

BTW, if your editing package can handle adding black bars in realtime, great, do that. Alternately, the ol' "put black cardboard mattes in front of your video monitor" trick might work too ;)

You could also just add the black bars to the 16x9 footage before transcode - but that'd suck because you'd have to re-do the transcode if you wanted to pan-n-scan it.

"For whatever reason" would be user inaction - it's pretty easy to check the recording ratio, it's on both the LCD/EVF displays in the bottom left and also on the camera's rear LCD display. Vigilance! Train your ACs.

THANKS Bruce
and ya your right its not delivering in 2K
but I want to have that option for workflow purposes.

Point takeing Cali
thank you for the obvious.

I am looking for solutions to improving this current issue.
Not future shoots

Thank you though.
