Since I have started using the Red Epic-M I have been exporting videos from redcine-x and fcpx as apple pro res 422 (HQ). This creates a .mov file that of course is default to quicktime. My question is if there is a better option for exporting and possibly a better player than quicktime I could use for playback after export. I have been told that quicktime does not support the 4k footage of the epic.

Mike-
Have not heard either way if QT supports 4K (can't imagine it not doing so) - but -
you say you already _have_ exported QT files. And presumably tried (and failed??) to get your 4K files to play in QT. Yes?
Just trying to follow your work flow...
Trying not to state the obvious but if you have, as you seem to be saying, exported 4K out of FCPX and used QT to play them then...
well, QT is playing your 4K files.
No?

i personally feel like it looks fine in quicktime I have just been told that there is a problem with 4k in quicktime and so I am trying to find out what that problem may be and see if anyone else had suggestions of anything better than it to use. but i typically export my 4k files from redcine-x in apple pro res 422 (HQ) which of course makes .mov files but i also bring them down to 1920x1080 at this point before taking them into fcpx for editing. so the final export from fcpx is at 1080 which still looks amazing to me and I have no idea why i am being told that quicktime is not the industry standard for playback
