Hey Guys,

Trying to figure this one out, not sure if it's even possible.

I have a client who wants to send me Avid Project Sequences and my workflow is in the FCP realm. They need to send me the projects, I cut in some things, then resend it to them as a QT file via FTP for approval.

I was looking into Automatic Duck but I think it's something they would need to get as they would be the ones exporting the project sequence, which wouldn't be possible.

I am suggesting they just export me a QT from Avid that I can drop in, (don't need access to individual files just need to cut, drop in some footage and re export back out for approval, but still waiting to hear back on what the producer thinks on that. Can Avid even export out to a compatible QT file that I could just drop in and cut up?

Trying to wrap my head around this one thanks !! :sosp:

No. Avid exports AAF without the need for any third party plugins. You need Automatic Duck Pro Import FCP on your FCP system to import that AAF.

I have done this with Red material offlined in Avid, and it works well for bringing it into FCP.

Avid CAN export a single Quicktime file of their entire Avid sequence that can then be imported into FCP and edited on (assuming their Avid project doesn't need to be conformed and is already Hi Res enough for finishing). You ca have them export it as pretty much anything (uncompressed, DnX HD QT, etc.).

Just be careful if they are running their Avid on a PC, you will get a color shift when you bring it into your mac because of the damn PC and MAC gamma difference.

Thanks for the input/expertise guys.

I am now waiting to hear back from client/producer to see what approach is the best.

Noah - I agree that the process is a little cumbersome...I'm hoping they will see the light and realize how wonderful things can be in the FCP world

But in all seriousness I do appreciate the workflow advice/workarounds.

Thanks again !

I think you're in the wrong section if you want to start a pro-FCP conversation ;)
