Edit in Premiere with the reference files. Import project in After Effects, set up a 16 bit project in the proper color space and render the final output in 16 bit TIFF's?

I mean, when working with the reference files in a 16 bit environment, does the program call the 16 bits worth of data from the source RAW footage?

I understand that this workflow would be limited to 2K but that wouldn't be a big problem with the actual exhibition systems.

If that doesn't work, is there any chance that in the near future AE accepts the RED's RAW footage?

BTW, when will the RAW quicktime support be available for Windows?

Cineform just released a "Shell based DPX to CineForm AVI/MOV convertor" - http://www.dvinfo.net/conf/showthread.php?t=107918

Or maybe even output directly to Cineform Quicktimes in RedCine...

I understand that this workflow would be limited to 2K but that wouldn't be a big problem with the actual exhibition systems.

They are ready for 4K 10bit realtime editing in Premiere Pro, with finishing in AE if you wish. With this solution it would be tempting to work in 4K throughout - if you need 4K that is. No 2K limit like people say FCP has.

EDIT: Reading your post again, I now see that you were referring to the reference files. Sorry.

How well does CineForm Quicktime work on Premiere? bugs? I would not trust a big project with quicktime in premiere yet would I?

I would start by saying that the only systems I've truly ever trusted (as a user) are smoke/fire. I used to work at a facility. Now I'm running my own production company on lower budgets. Premiere and Cineform works for me. The beauty is the fact that you convert everything from HDV to uncompressed to the same codec.

Of course, the Quicktime support is new and probably not as stable as the AVI solution. But Cineform AVI in Premiere is at least as stable as Premiere itself. And by that I mean that they actually replace alot of the Premiere core.

What I'm waiting for is RedRAW to CineformRAW 4K batch processor...

David, any news? :sorcerer:

Thanks for the update David. I will be very interested to see what you come up with. I tired a CineForm export from RedCine today, but never got it to work. The argument was failed to render 1st frame. Will try again later after changing graphics cards.

Wonderful!

After all sounds like Adobe Premiere will be the first system where one can edit 4K files from RED cameras in RT.

Funny, isn't it. Cineform is an amazing company and IMO one that shares the RED spirit and philosophy. High end film tools, great tech and close contact with their users, at bargain prices.

David any way we could bypass RedCine, to GPU buggy Qtime dependent for me.
