Possible to use mainstream quickrelease plate from Manfrotto directly on Red One?

Hello,

Supposed I want to use my video head and quickrelease plate (http://www.manfrotto.com/manfrotto-503-series-head) directly on the Red One..
Does this work?

Or do I need rods, a cheeseplate and then mount the quickrelease plate on there?
A tip on a simple and light solution is much appreciated. I cannot find my way in the accessories section of the shop.

Thanks. And sorry for this basic question.

This helped a lot, I'm positive that I can balance it for now.

Please allow me one more question:
What about the SLIDING TOP HANDLE, can this accessory also be mounted directly?

Thank you.

The Sliding Top Handle could only be mounted if you had the DSMC RED One Top Mounts, which incorporate a NATO (also known as a SWAT) style mounting rail. They also sell the top mounts and sliding handle as a pack. As far as your Manfrotto 503 head, the weight of the R1 greatly exceeds that head's weight rating...I've put an R1 on a 503 and it will work (barely) but is somewhat unstable. You would be much better off using the Manfrotto 509HD (or at least the 504HD) heads.

Thank you. Very valuable insight.
Ok, I will try to trade my head. It has to be stable.

Unfortunately the top handle configuration you mentioned is a bit out of my range.
I wonder if the DSMC TACTICAL TOP HANDLE would work on a R1?

I don't think the Tactical handle will work, but there are many other handle configurations for the R1. RED makes the 2 piece Top Handle and Handle Extension, Element Technica makes a top handle for R1, Long Valley Equip. makes a top handle...check out the RED Stuff for sale (used) forum here for used R1 accessories...handles, power, media, rails, mounts, dovetails, etc....there are tons of them available for very good prices.

Thanks again.
I will definitly check out the forum.
But since shipping to Europe is a complicated process, I was mainly looking into the shop directly.

Oh, there are so many parts. Now RED HANDLE MOUNT caught my interest. I wonder if I could mount that on the top of the cam.
Basically I have worked out a first order, where I do not go overboard. Thanks to all the help here.

The RED Handle Mount is designed to mount onto a Universal Mount, and allow a Right and Left handle to be attached to the ends of the Handle Mount...to make a handheld configuration.

There are plenty of RED One owners in the EU that advertise used items for sale in the forum here. If you buy from one of them, I'm sure it is much easier.
