I just tested the EPIC of the School I teach and it is not hot swapping from AC to REDVOLT (it works the other way around though). I`ll be receiveing my scarlet any time soon and I`m worried it will have the same problem. The RED EPIC Manual says it chooses the between the existing powering sources in a prioritizing order that is: 1 AC 2 Batery module3 REDVOLT on the Side Handle.I would imagine that the shutdown that happens when you pull the AC plug (with a REDMOTE on te Handle) is because it takes the camera by surprise (couldn`t find better words to describe) and it leaves the camera unpowered for a very short moment. So I was wondering if it is not possible to force the camera invert the prioritizing order in user programable key, so you would press the 1 button on the side handle (for instance) and it would shift from AC to RED VOLT even with the AC still plugged. I think that if this was possible, the RED team could implement this feature in a future firmware, it would not be the ideal solution the way I see it, but it would be almost perfect, and would prevent many user to have to send their cameras back...I would like to hear your pinion guys, and would be nice to hear from someone from the RED team too :smiley:Cheers!

Submit a support ticket to RED, your side handle may need fixed. I shipped my handle back and 5 days later I was hot swapping to my hearts content.

Hi Chris,

I`m aware that this is a problem that needs fixing, however, the School I teach can not afford to send the Side handle back, because the student`s are going to start shooting their projects and RED VOLTS are currently our only power option besides AC. Also it would probably take longer them 5 days for it to return as we are located in Brazil.

The same applies to my self if I happen to have the same problem with my Scarlet.

This issue is not im my opinion a very limiting one, as the solution for now is simple, just power down the camera before switch from AC to Side Handle, and as the booting time of the EPIC is very short, this is not so annoying.

However, based on REDuser posts, this problem is very common, and has been around for quite some time (much before the School even ordered It`s EPIC), so I personally believe that this particular issue should have been tested on the School`s camera, before they had it sent in. But it was not, so unfortunately, we have no choice but stick with a malfunctioning camera package (at least until the end of the year)

That`s why I believe that a firmware that allowed you to make the camera chose the RED VOLT inside the Side Handle, even with the AC still plugged in, would be a very satisfactory solution.

Still eager to hear more opinions!

Cheers!
