  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

Porta Jib Vs Ez Jib

I have a Porta-Jib Traveler. Very well made in construction and materials. Folds up small. Tricky to deploy. I've never been able to hand it off to anyone else without needing to demo several times. Smooth moves and very stable. Telescopic design useful for smaller spaces.

No experience with the EZ Jib but it looks good.

I am also now looking into adding a JonyJib2 for longer reach.

One of my clients used to have a Porta-Jib. I didn't like it. Another client has an EZ Jib. It works fine. I have the Seven Jib for Longvalley Equipment. It is my favorite small jib. Super quick to set up, packs small, but most importantly, smooth movement. It is rated to 75 lbs.

Lookin at Jibs. The Porta is more pricey. Thoughts and experience?

I own both the EZ FX jib, Portan Jib Standard and the Porta Jib Traveller and I definitely like the Porta Jib more. It's VERY MUCH worth the extra cost. The machinist did a really good job at Porta Jib. There are too many screws and parts to go with the EZ FX jib, which also makes the setup time longer. The Porta Jib is just one long barrel. I first owned the EZ FX jib and after about a year I went out and bought the Porta Jib instead.

I am selling my Porta Jib Traveller for $2100 if you are interested. I paid $2860 for it, including the case and fine tuning weight.

I have a porta jib std. I chose it for its weight capacity, 100lbs. I f you are flying a Red with a fluid head... you will be kinda heavy. It is very well built. I have used other lighter jibs and they are more wobbly and NOT as smooth with the Red.

Prost,
Rich

I find the Seven unstable. Losmandy Porta-jib is most solid. Hollywood Micro- Dolly jib is amazing for it's lightness and portability -uses flattenable plastic jugs for weights -you fill with water or a tray you can put in anything heavy at hand and expands to 12 feet. Way more expensive but worthwhile if you travel a lot with it.

So am I, with a basic setup and my F7 head, my seven-jib tends to bend on the weight side which creates a kind of spring effect, so that starts and stops are a not really usable.

The EZ jib is the same btw, it bends but on a different axis.Don't know much about the Portajib but I guess it's the same.
That's why they are lightweight.

If I need something sturdier, I'll get a GFM.
