  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

Poorly shot RED footage?

Is there such a thing?

I'm trying to prove a point to someone about why the camera is just a tool. There are people out there who think that by running out and buying/renting a RED, they'll have cinematic goodness. Are there any examples online of Terribly shot RED footage?
It is just possible that there is no such thing as bad RED footage since it is RAW and REDcine X Pro is constantly evolving to make even old less-than-perfect footage look good. I noticed that on some of my poorly shot first footage from a R-1 that later looked much better due to an improvement in REDcine a year or so after it was shot.

So the argument could be made that there is a difference in camera models since RED is a system and not just a camera!

My personal understanding is:

The camera is part of a chain, if that is not understood, then bad images might not establish the requested understanding either.

Cinematography is more than photography plus time.

Taste comes into play on this discussion as well. One man's shit show is another man's art.

IE: I'm not all that keen on the Instagram look, but does that mean the footage is poorly shot?

Some people like a soft 24P filmic look, some like 59.94 hyper clean reality.

It's all very subjective so this should make for a lengthy thread. :)
