  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

poor Japan, now a Typhoon?!

We're ok so far. You can track the storm's progress here if interested:

http://www.jma.go.jp/en/typh/111524l.html

Currently the typhoon is expected to hit the Kobe/Nagoya region in a few hours and Tokyo shortly thereafter. No doubt there will be coastal damage and flooding, but we're pretty used to these types of events and buildings are built solid here thanks to the earthquakes we get!

Thanks for thinking of us :)

Cheers from a wet Tokyo,

Paul :)

You can follow it live on radar now, as it passes via Tokyo.... (press play for composite video)

It's pissing down cats and dogs here right now! Wind is VERY strong, gusting to 65kts (around 120kmh).

Cheers from the squall,

Paul :D

I don't think it's okay for everybody on north that Typhoon is carrying the radiation further way and some people had lost their lives.

I see the reports from real people reporting some damages on facebook. Hope nothing more major happens and hoping for Fukushima Nuclear Plants to withstand. Thank you for the concern, Tim and Ketch.

Living in Japan many years ago, I remember one season where Tokyo got hit by no less than five typhoons. Earthquakes also very common, dozens of them everyday, the majority below the threshold of human perception. Interestingly, I lived beside a temple that kept several dogs, they would start howling a minute or two before the big-ish ones hit.

So, it's nothing unusual; mother-nature wise, Japan is just a very exciting place to be!

Over 100 people are lost and dead from this Typhoon so far. Actually one of the worst, unfortunately it is not usual I would say.

Very upsetting this happens now. Not only the typhoon but picking up radiation and spreading it further too.

I dont know how we can help but if we can let us know.

The current government decided to continue to use the Nuclear power and they are going to make announcement at United Nation. I hope other countries would even accuse the Japanese government for spreading the radiation. The mother nature can't be helped. But the Nuclear incident is making it much worse. We need to stop.

I'm concerned about the people with half broken houses in Tohoku. The typhoon is hitting directly as it did in Tokyo. The big trees of Shibuya Dogenzaka fell from the wing today. 36m/sec.. It is not normal size Typhoons that we normally experience.

Well, the storm's passed and all is calm again.

I guess I'm a bit more used to the big cyclones (or typhoons as they're known here in Japan) than Kaku, hailing as I do from North Queensland, Australia.

Anyone remember TC Yasi recently? One of the largest cyclones on record and literally the entire length of Japan in diameter!

Anyway, as Kaku correctly points out, this is Mother Nature and there's nothing we can do against stuff like this, besides riding it out and getting on with life. Ditto on the earthquakes.

So, onward and upward!

Cheers from Tokyo,

Paul :)

Yep, that was a big one. Was on a Barrier Reef shoot a couple of months after, large sections of reef totally obliterated, take years to come back.

Shinkansen operation between Osaka and Tokyo is stopped... friends of mine are stranded in Nagoya.
They take it easy - seems like it will be over soon (the typhoon is already moving farther away).

I think the media and each cities acted so much more prepared, even some large trees coming down on busy street in Shibuya, noone was harmed. Although many people had injured and died, Japan acted prepared so much better than before, and this is not because the government is wired. The civil is wired. As Peter mentioned his friend standing by, I heard that the stations had some preparation to provide blankets and spaces for the people who got stuck at the stations. Well done everyone, sympathize for the victims, and the government has to go.

We also did have an medium size earthquake when the typhoon was passing. What's happening earth?
