I want to thank George Bush and Dick Chainey for reminding us all that the price of freedom is Vigilance: "...yellow cake from Africa". And I would also like to thank Colon Powell for having some dignity and self-respect. And to the world in general for the last 8 years...sorry about that...our bag! Hopefully our votes this time will be counted, and the next group of folks not so self absorbed.

Number6 - you appear to be the one not looking at the entirety of the disaster.

Joel, no disrespect but I don't have the extra time to rehash the past with you. Got too much goin' on in my windshield to keep constantly looking into my rearview mirror. sorry.
Oh... and I don't have cable, so I don't watch any news channels. What I do know from my own research is they cover Iraq only a few minutes per week

This one does translate into the present, in that the news is too busy covering the "BARACK OBAMA VICTORY TOUR" of like-minded Europeans while not taking responsibility for his politically motivated willingness to accept defeat from the forces of terrorism that were prevalent in Iraq, before the John McCain backed surge successfully enabled the Iraqis to step forward.

Oh, and how about that oil price? Hope you weren't long in the market this past week or so. What a coincidence that Bush forced Congress's hand by opening up drilling off the continental shelf, and the price of oil fell, just like John McCain said it would.

Of course, China is already drilling there, or so I've heard, based on obtaining rights from Cuba to drill in their waters which bump right up next to ours. And the Alaska wildlife refuge? Oil companies say they can drill by utilizing only about 6 acres total. How? By using horizontal drilling technology. Annnnnnd... there's 90 billion bbls of oil under them thar' hills.

You don't have cable? Me either. The world is probably better off for that. With the knowledge we might attain from having cable, well, we might be dangerous.

and have always sensored the truth of what's going on over there - which is much more violent than reported. If you don't think American news is sanitized and guided by the Corporations that own and advertise on those stations you're tragically mistaken. The truth is unlikely to appear on your favorite cable station.

Truth? TRUTH!!? YOU CAN'T HANDLE THE TRUTH!! Sorry, I can't help doing Jack Nicholson from time to time.

Anyway, IMO "trvth" is not always what it's cracked up to be. For instance, Congressman Charles Shumer (D) New York, wrote letters inquiring about the solvency of the Indy Bank located somewhere in California. That likely caused a run on the bank and brought it crashing doun. The govt. then had to take extraordinary steps to quickly shore up the banking system (with your tax dollars) in order to restore public confidence.

Even the network news realized the danger of continuing to promote doom and gloom in order to guarantee an Obama win in November and backed off telling the "trvth." I think they realized if they do their job too well, even Obama can't speech us out of a Depression.

They may not be quite as powerful as they think they are though, because try as they may they and their Democrat allies were not able to force a withdrawal, and thus chaos in the Middle East, by their one-sided reporting of pre-surge Iraq.

Sometimes it is a close call between getting it right and failure. George W. Bush, at the urging of John McCain stood fast against a public incited against the surge and won the day. Obama, by his oun words, would have caved and the ensuing chaos could have prompted $300 a bbl oil today instead of only $120 and ebbing (as of this writing).

Joel, I know it sounds like I'm doing a John McCain ad here, and "trvth" be told, I guess I am. Not a Republican ad because I see this election as John McCain being the center right candidate who is up against the liberal agenda Democratic Party.

It was recently pointed out that Bill Clinton wanted to govern more from the center but his party would not allow him to. And they had the congressional clout to insure he would not govern effectively at all if he didn't follow their wishes.

This is not an election about Obama against McCain. It is about the center against the left.

(Sorry if I turned this from the past into the more relevant present and future.)

For gawd sake's, number6, every claim you make is either factually inaccurate or sheer fantasy. The lack of response here is probably a sense of futility and despair, that an American with leisure and access to information could be so woefully misinformed.

The thread was abandoned long ago by most of the contributors. Maybe we're all gasbags here, but enough is enough, no? Your views are well represented in the right-wing blogosphere, any interested party can find them there. For anyone else, this stuff is appalling, horrifying even.

J pp. you are free to express your loopy-headed liberal views. I guess if the mods had thought the thread had run its course they would have closed it. S'all right with me.

afterthought: I hope you weren't implying that just because I have different views from you, that all debate should be cut off? That's... well, polarizing.

J pp. you are free to express your loopy-headed liberal views.

But that's just it. I'm not expressing such opinions here, loopy or not.

But if your views on oil prices and the joy of Iraqi occupation and the threat to happiness, world peace and the 2nd amendment posed by Barack Obama are really all that crucial, by all means....

Pretty much. When we can't even stipulate basic facts what's point of continuing. I wish we could all take a trip to Baghdad together to see for ourselves. But I'd want body armor and a military escort.

:) Good One VSV... just wonder what you would have put up if Hillary had been the Democrat nominee? If you have something on hand and it isn't TOO distasteful, I hope you will post it. Nothing like a good cartoon to break the boredom.

Pretty much. When we can't even stipulate basic facts what's point of continuing.

But who is the arbiter of which ARE the basic facts? You... or me?

Let's face it. I am not going to change your way of thinking and vice-versa. I knew that going in but I think you actually held hope that you could bring me around to your way of thinking.

All this debate is about is putting forth two viewpoints so those who are actually undecided can have both viewpoints to consider.

Israeli newspaper publishes Obama's private prayer.

An Israeli newspaper's decision to publish a handwritten prayer left by Barack Obama in the cracks of Jerusalem's Western Wall drew criticism Friday as an invasion of his privacy and his relationship with God.
