Pola size

With a whole lot of cine-mod lens options out there with a standardised front diameter of say 77mm thread, is there any consequence in using a 77mm circular pola on a lens that is a 52mm diameter? I mean is there an advantage or necessity to use a circular pola that is correctly sized for the lens you are shooting so that you are not just using the central portion of the filter?

No, it's fine to use a larger fllter on a smaller lens with the appropriate step ring, except that you can't use the stock lens hood then.
