Does anyone know anything about the 3 primes that are set to be released with Sony's new PMW F3?

Are the any pictures or detailed info? I have had a look round and can't find much.

Does anyone know if they are ment to be any good? Seems like if the were the F3 could be a good option while waiting for the s35, a good camera to shoot on in the meantime and a set of primes to start of when the Scarlet (epic lite) arrives.

Cant comment on the optical or build quality. But i know they arent a standard pl mount. its a special sony mount. The camera ships with a adapter ring so u can put real pl glass on. Theyll have to make that adapter in reverse to work on other cameras

Actually - the Prime lenses ARE true PL mount lenses.

The Zooms are Sony proprietary mount.

This is the only part of the F3 announcement that I am really stoked on.

My guess is that they are made with Fujinon glass...

Yum... I wanna try these on my MX.

Isn't the price difference for body only and all 3 lenses only like $5,000?

Can't believe they could be particularly surprising when it comes to quality.

I'm guessing along the lines of a Zeiss ZF, great optics but poor mechanical quality/accuracy.

In the end you will get great results but you'll have to work for them!

Thanks for the link Nils.. but this is a bummer:
"It appears that definitive focus index marks are lacking, probably to keep costs down. "

I'm not a cine guy so may be FOS - but isn't it fairly easy to mark your own lenses?

If the lens rings are mechanically coupled and backlash is minimal, then yes.

don't worry guys

don't worry guys

For a few hundred bucks You can get your lines calibrated and engraved.
Looks like a good deal- I wonder about the weight. These a re probably rehoused Minoltas- Sony owns the brand.
Or ZFs-Sony has a close relationship with Zeiss. I'm not sure how this will fare with the CPs- IF they are indeed rehoused ZFs

my 2 cents, these lenses will be sharp, a lot of lenses are sharp. the thing i care about the most are if these lenses have any mojo to them. a look, something special or when you look at it, it produces a good aesthetic feeling. I think that's what it really comes down to for a quality set of glass. if their glass has some kind of mojo to it, it will def be a great set. if it's just bland and sharp, I don't think a lot of people will have any interest. RPP's can get you a long way these days, as well as other competing companies.

I agree they are almost certainly a rehouse. Unless, they made 10,000 sets at Fujinon or Konica/Minolta, which I highly doubt.

$2300 per lens... They might be a bargain, if they´re "good enough". If not, they´ll serve as proof as to how brilliant the RED Pro Primes are.

24 coming

24 coming

I think that it's only a matter of time for the 24. Right now it's
3+ times the price of the others and they couldn't offer a killer deal on it...
