Please Guys, let the London RED station do repairs.

I had a 7 month epic with german customs about a RED warranty repair last year. Now a simple RED arm warranty repair is threatening to become the same.

Doing everything by the book - including the "Warranty repair and return" label on the package is no reason for FedEx/german customs not to charge customs duty.

I even had to travel 160 km to the nearest custom station to show the RED arm to some officers who clearly would not have been able to distinguish it from a russian vibrator.

Oh btw, (I know I´m mid-rant) the official customs category of the Element Technica EVF Mount here is "Climbing ropes".

Too much idiocy. Please let the London guys do repairs. Please.

Second that request. Although service is outstanding, I am not looking forward to put our 17,500 dollar body in a package again should anything be wrong with it. I'd rather drive to the UK and spend a few days there waiting for repair. The English Pound is low, so it could be a good time to invest ;)

"Processing Outward" in German "Passive Veredelung" is the stuff as nightmares are made of. An UK based repair shop would help to get over recent wounds and bring light in the dark and evil tunnel of mental German customs.

Jochen post is entertaining, the issue is not. Thanks for the the thread, Jochen.

yes please......the whole fighting with the customs is horrible.and put some stuff like cables, craddles, drives in there

Failing that, Ive got an impressive set of screwdrivers and some duct tape?

Second that, I need to repair my LCD, but after 2 calls with Fedex and several more with customs I gave up and will hold the LCD until i fly to US, or UK does repairs.

yes!!!

Why you need to pay for customs ? send it not from company name and get it back to your home adress . No body will ask you what is it . Because price of LCD , arm and etc is low . Even Rep of Georgia i can buy and get any item under 5000 USD and did not pay customs .

Have you seen the documentary of the german customs office by Terry Gilliam? I think it was called "Brazil" or something....

german customs is different related to paperwork...no chance

I second the notion!

It will be good also, if they can make the updates for the epics on the RED LONDON STATION too!!!

Importing/exporting is problematic.

I had a problem with my Red that required it was sent back to Red HQ USA. According to UK tax law, if the camera had needed to be replaced (not repaired as it was), I'd be liable to pay the full VAT again to get it back again, upon re-import, thats £3.5k, even though Red provided the service for free, even under warranty.

Talk about screwing your own citizens.. Red Europe is much needed..

Now that I'm VAT registered things should be easier right? Wrong, enter Fedex..

I recently bought a set of Zeiss ZF lenses from Cinevate (Canada), and needed a full set in a hurry. Cinevate delivered, Fedex didn't. After the lenses had sat in London Stanstead Airport for four days, with Fedex saying "They're cleared, be with you tomorrow..promise promise" , I decided to make the 550mile round trip from the North East of England, to the South East, then back up to the North West for the job, before navigating home in the North East. What's a man got to go to do to make a living. As for our friendly local Fedex "stunt driver", thats another story..

Please open your european center!

My Red is now in the ungrateful hands of FedEx for 9 days (and counting). They got an new excuse every day and my emails and faxes seem to disapear in their office.

And everything just, cause someone from the customs made a very stupid choice on one page. A nightmare!!

Or at least switch to a non FEDEX company for international delivery :whistling:

f****ing Fed Ex

f****ing Fed Ex

i'm hoping that Red Europe means never having to deal with fed ex again. The worst thing about being a red owner is having to deal with f****ing Fed Ex.
Thankfully Red Europe are upgrading Red 1152 as we speak so i didn't have to send it to the States.

i decided to get an accountant just because i couldn't face going through the mounds of paper, the bailiff threats for for invoices already paid , and the mistakes made by Fed Ex.
i love Red.
i HATE Fed Ex.

Please open London. I've been though a three month stand off with "*** Fedex". I refused to pay them VAT on my camera which was clearly marked "Warranty Repair" until they explained to me how it should have been packaged to avoid paying tax everytime a part when back.

Finally, they revealed to me that they needed the outgoing Tracking No.

I don't know why they keep this a secret - I haven't had a problem since.

So far so good.

I can't say the word "Fedex "anymore without preceding it with swear word.
