I'm on a tough scedule and having problems with SOME of the R3D files.
Red Alert crashes, RedcineX shows black frames and renders black frames, After effects shows an Error: error4 reading frame from file.
But the Data is there. I was able to see a few frames in RA and AE
The Clip seems to be split up into three R3D files.
Normally I just picked the first one and everything worked fine.
This Problem is randomly, on different Cards and also not every Clip of one Card.
The Backup Drive tested on a PC (I'm on Mac) showed the same Problem.
Does anyone know what this is and how I can fix this?
Is there any more Information I can give?
Any help is more than apreciated!
Regards
KIM

If you don't have a serious problem with your file system (check with Disk Warrior), I'd try to generate new proxies.

Thanks for your Reply Uli!
I don't think it's a problem with my file system, cause most of the Clips and other stuff works.
I want to try creating new proxies, cause they also do turn into green frames while quicktime preview (on some Clips)
How can I do this?
with Red Alert?
Regards
KIM

Red Alert keeps crashing.
Is there a way to do create new proxies in RedcineX - can't find it
Camera was on build 30 - just asked my rental house
Could this cause the problems with Redalert and After effects, because they just support up to build 21 and 18?

Clipfinder will allow you to create new proxies.

Load all the clips.
Make quicktimes.
done.

David

Thanks David...
What version of Clipfinder should I purchase?
I downloaded the free Version 2.2 imported R3D
Than Edit: make Quicktimes
Still the preview Window turns green, but in the loupe Window I can see the Footage
What is that? Do I have to get the newer Clipfinder 2.5 Beta?

SOunds like you do not have the correct QT codec installed.

Have you downloaded and installed the latest QT codec from the RED site?

It also sounds like you may have some corrupted media there.
How were the backups performed?
Did they use a checksum application?

You should open a support ticket with RED and send them the camera log files.

That green playback can be corrupt media.

David

I just tried rendering TIFFs out of Clipfinder.
It rendered but just one single frame, over and over.
Yes, newest Quicktime Codec is installed.
Backup was performed on two seperate Harddrives, both directy from the CF.
No application was used, but every Clip was checked to have the same filesize and by eye.
The frames are definetly there.
I could see them from time to time.
What does corrupt mean?
I'll have a search for the support ticket

So I opened a support ticket and got reply that he copied my request to some of the workflow experts, but no more mails yet.
So I thought I'll ask over here again.
Anyone with Ideas?
I'm pretty sure, that the frames exist, I'm just not able to play them back or render.

Do you still have the original media the files were recorded onto?

I'm afraid not...
Everything was rented and we used the CF cards several times.
That's also strange:
It's not the same card where the Problems happen.

Try this.

find the R3D folder you are having problem with. Make a copy of the whole folder.

Then look into the copied folder then trash the proxy files.

Next open it in Red Alert or clipfinder, then do the make QuickTime.

Thanks Kuku...
I just tried it, but the new proxies still don't work.
Quicktime player plays some frames, then just green ones - just like before.
But when I just click through the timeline in Clipfinder I can see that the frames exist!
The data is there...

So I searched the Forum AGAIN...
Found a lot of posts about the same or similar issue.
Tips were: Bad Fire Wire 800 cable, bad CF Card reader, bad CF Module, recreate Proxies.
If so many users over here had the same problem, what did you do with the files - just leave them.
I can't - I'm afraid some of the files where one takes - and I need those.
Please guys... come up with more ideas...

Is there a way I can look at the file?

Kim,

Did you say you have the latest REDCODE? You should work with the v 3.9.0.

I opened you file with the system installed with v 4.1, it crashes right away.
But with v 3.9.0, I was able to create proxies.

However, I do see a green frame in the R3D file so your original R3D file does have a problem that is leading to issues. You should provide this file to Deanan and ask for specific way to get your footage out of the corrupted R3D.

Kim,

REDAlert! seems to crash up on rendering, but with RED ROCKET & ROCKETcine-X, I was able to render out to ProRes422HQ the entire clip, but with the bad frame showing up like the codec error.

So the bad frame exists, but if you find someone with RR, you can ask him to render clips for you. You will have bad frames, but at least you would be able to work with the rest of the footage.

Kim,

Hope the rest of the clips would work for you the same at least.
