Hi,
I am fairly new to the Red workflow but I haven't really ever had any issues before. I am working on a project so its only right that something would go wrong now. I have a lot of footage, so have been dumping it down to my external drive and encoding some straight off the card in the evenings when I have had chance.
My issue is; Redcine crashes immediately when I try to access footage which I copied to on external drive. The drive is a Drobo and is connected via Firewire 800. I have tried copying a clip from to the hard drive of my machine and opening it that way but it still wont play back. Occasionally it wont crash straight away but it only buffers a couple of seconds of the clip in 1/8th res. It lets me play that back but eventually it freezes.
I have experimented further, copying a file from my RED MAG to my Mac hard drive, I open it in Redcine and play it back no problems. Then if I copy the same file to my Drobo hard drive and try and open it the same crash or freeze happens.
Question is i suppose; is this a limitation of the Drobo? Is RED footage just too tasty for it. But if that is the case then why when i copy the footage back to my machine does it still crash?
My machine is fairly decent: Mac Pro 4,1 2.66 quad core, 32gb Ram, Snow leopard. 2 x NVIDIA GeForce GT 120
Any advice welcome.
Thanks,
Chris.
