  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

Playing around with my CNC machine and building parts for my Red rig.

Just thought I would share a few fun pics of a project I put together over the weekend. Not sure if anyone out there is using rig but if you do perhaps they would be interested in one of these mounts. ;) Perhaps Jim could put me to work lol.

I'm jealous that you have a CNC machine, and I like your widget ... but how do you envision using it? A really long cable?

Without a wireless video feed that seems sort of useless. Wait, I guess because that's a RED LCD, you'd need a wireless video and power feed.

So, do you know something I don't?

10' LCD cable would work great and allow the 1st AC to be a few feet from the camera.

Love it. I'm holding out for one of those 3D printers...

Thanks for the kind words!

The machine I use is the Haas TM2P. Its a very capable machine, and allot of fun.

The reason I wanted to make this mount is because when running our Steady Cam I found that the focus puller needed to be mobile with the camera. Having the lcd monitor mounted on the steady rig just wasn't practical for us. So I thought that having the monitor hard mounted to the controller itself would be ideal. The great thing about the Red monitor is the video signal and power both are supplied to the unit with just the one cable. We have a 10" cable that works perfect. I just walk along side the camera and focus from there. It works really well. The fact I'm tethered to the camera doesn't bother me at all.

I think the next thing I'll fabricate is a cable clamp that mounts to the camera itself so just incase the cable gets hung up somewhere it will pull at the clamp and not the sensitive redone Lemo plug.

I'll shoot some photos of the camera in action with the arriflex/Red LCD combo in action!

Hey Mike, I love those 3D printers too. Just went to Siggraph last week. So many on the market now. And they are slowly coming down in price. Soon I hope to have one aswel. With a mill and a printer, there's not much you can't do :)

What kind of software do you use to drive that baby? How do you design your toys? Looks very cool.

How much does one of those set you back?

I hadn't thought of the steadicam possibilities. Makes sense.

Also a great idea!

Good stuff Trevor!

Thank's Alexander :) With tooling they can run about 60k. But there are allot of other great machines that cast allot less. My first machine was a Tormach. They cost around 7k, and are fantastic. They can almost do as much as the Haas but takes longer is all. :)

Hey gang,

Just thought I would share some pics of the gear all hooked up. It's perfect with a 10' cable.

Sorry for the crappy phone photo quality. :)

wow ..do you own that Hass? were using a Tree journyman 320 with Featurecam..i am truly jealous!

Those Tree machines are quite the beast! What kind of work do you do with it? Yes I do own my Haas. Got it new a few months ago. I keep it at home in my garage, its quite big. I actually had to punch a hole in the roof just so the vertical stock, and cable carrier could extend all the way.
