Hi,

this is our first shot on Dragon, truly overwhelmed what can be done with this sensor. Also played around with our strobes this time, did some shots in sync, some out of sync to create the effects. Thanks to RED Germany for being so helpful :-)
Hope you like it.

Cheers

Ulf

Very clever work. Well done.

Ulf nice effect. If you don't mind - what are you using for the strobe, pretty high flash rate for a photography flash. I've got some strobes that can flash that fast but it looks like you were getting a lot of light out of yours too (quite a bit more than I can get out of any of my 10hz+ strobes)

David,

Thanks for watching, we used broncolor Scoro strobes for that. The Scoro can be programmed to fire a sequence of flashes after an initial trigger. Number of flashes, flash duration, delay and repetition rate is selectable in very limited borders. I´d like to have even more control, but for a stills photography unit it does a great job, it can and was synchronized for 50FPS on some shots. On others we programmed a "wrong" timing on purpose to get the black bars.

It looks like you had a couple nice rolling shutter effects too... very nice.

Love this!

Hi Tom,

We just used the initial trigger from the Epic. We let the flash run in a programmed pattern and set the camera accordingly. For the moving rolling shutter effects we dialed in a mismatch and also used various shutter angles to determine the cut-off (thickness of the black bars). We´re quite familiar with these units as we used strobe effects in our stills photography before.

Very cool work, nice Ulf!

No clean up, they just sync fine for the series of strobes programmed. We only triggered the first frame and let camera and strobe run with their internal timings. Where you see the sync bars they were chosen intentionally, the camera frame rate / strobe sequence was set to a slightly different timing. One thing we noticed though, the single strobes do have a slight variation in intensity from flash to flash so you will never end up with a continuous smooth lighting, just in case this would be of interest for you. Fun to play around nevertheless.

Yes, I assigned a side handle button to

Strobe: Trigger

to fire the packs programmed sequence. We used the a wireless trigger that was connected via the PC (sync) socket of the SH. This way you make sure your triggered frame is perfectly in time with your shutter. HTH.

Cheers

Ah, I didn't realize there was a sync port on the side handle. Mine wasn't getting much use so I sold it. Now I'm rather wishing I still had one!
